PS3 "trophies" for achievements

At the GDC Sony announced their plans for the PS3 " Home " a virtual world for gamers to get together and have group clan sessions known as " Apartments " to hang out in. The answer to the 360 Achievments will be called Trophies that you can view in a " Virtual Hall of Fame ".
Then there's the Virtual World where you can interact with other online friends.
it's pretty long article , I haven't had a chance to read all of it, just skim through it, but for the most part I found it interesting.

I like the whole idea, it sounds really cool and I bet this got the MMORPG people all excited. Too bad we have to wait until Fall.

But at least it's free.

That's awesome, it makes ps3 so much more worth it too. It's like a game but it's not and it's free. This will be where sony starts to really beat Microsoft in the console race. I can't wait

Yeah, Sony is really gonna take it to 'em! They are already starting to win, seeing as Sony has roughly 1 million Ps3's sold, compared to Microsoft's 10 mil. 360's

. And somewhere I read that Sony is only releasing around 6 mil units total. I'll try to find the artical.

Btw, it seems like a good idea, but I think they will fail, having a flaw in the "trophy" system.

I can't find the artical, but my dad refreshed my memory by saying that he read that the delayed any further shipment due to the computer HD problems that they are having, but until that's solved, only 6 mil shipped units.

I have both consoles. I don't want them to fail, but they need to get with the program. From what I've read it sounds like this is well thought out .All I can say is 4th Quarter is going to be some of the best gaming ever. I'm looking forward to seeing the interaction while walking around.

I highly, HIGHLY, HIGHLY doubt this will fail. There are way too many Sony fanboys and myspace/MMORPG addicts to let this go to waste.

Besides, what's cooler than having a few of your friends come over to your digital house and then you guys watch a porno together. Nothing, that's what!

IMO, there will be "failures" this time around. Every console will sell sell sell, and everyone will be happy. WTF cares who "wins" or "loses", just ****ing enjoy all the cool **** we get to play/interact with while they compete.

I've read a couple articles (destructoid,engadget), and seen a video, and I have to say this all sounds very promising.

The features they have planned are impressive, and could be a big one up on the competition.

What will be very interesting is to see how all of this pans out. What will really be free and what will not, and if this going to be par for Sony; Promise a lot, deliver about half of it.

This is how I think the money issue is going to go.

First, they're going to have people pay them for advertising (Nike, NASCAR, Gatorade, MTV, etc), and that will give them quite a bit of cash.

Next, mostly everything will be free, but eventually they'll release new items (furniture, clothes, new skins, etc) and probabaly charge for them. Maybe a few dollars for furniture, a few more dollars for name brand clothes, and then more money for a new skin pack. There are of course other things they'd charge for, but I wouldn't know what.

But it's inevitable there will be fee's. Not to actually use the default stuff, but for new stuff. Sony looked out the window one day and noticed that people paid to play games online (MMORPG's, XBL, other computer games) and paid high prices for name brand clothes. So of course they're going to capatilize on the people dumb enough to buy that stuff.

I won't purchase anything unless it's a super, duper, filled to the brim, box of goodies (a few new games and lots of other things). And if the price is right.

But anyway, I can't wait until Fall. This just sounds very intriguing.

Just the same as you pay for New Gamer Pics and Themes for the decoration of the 360.
