This is soley my opinion: College is an overrated waste of time, unless you're going to be a doctor, lawyer, or scientist of some sorts.
I've seen a lot of people waste thousands of dollars going to college to never need the degree, or even go into that profession.
I've been working as a computer programmer for one of the top telcos in the world for several years, and I have no degree.

That right there is bad advice...sorry, but it is.
Leave all video games? Wtf will you do when there is nothing happening that night or in your free time?
Don't bring a car? Are you serious? You have to go places./ Don't go home? Way to abandon your family.
Dump all boyfriends/girlfriends and significant others? That's useless "advice"...if your relationship is serious, you won't have any problems, even though it's "tough". And if you do run into problems, everything can be worked out.
Sorry if you seem like I can down hard, but those pieces of "advice" seemed useless to me.

That is exactly what I believe. I'm getting all tis pressure to go to college, but I don't even know if I want to.

lol, i disagree with some of those
I just started college, heres my noob advice, I by no means know everything:
Join a club. I came from having a core group of friends from football and im too small to play in college. I joined a professional fraternity DeltaSigmaPi (no hazing, pressure, mostly resume building with a brotherhood/partying aspect) and theyre who I hang out with. This makes college fun, easy, and motivates me.
Bring a car, no one wants to be stuck in school on a saturday night when everyone else goes to the city to party.
Have fun, but still do work. Get it all done early then have fun.
Get along with your roommate. They will make or break your first year. No one wants to come home after class to an enemy.
If any of yall are going to a school in RI, hit me up

I noticed some people are saying how wasteful college is. If you have been noticing, alot of jobs require a college education. For instance, applying for GM working on the line in 1970, no college degree required. Now, you must have a college degree to even think of working on the line. Same goes for Ford and Chrysler.
College is by no means a waste of time and money. You can make more money, and find a job that is more to your liking if you do.

I been in college for years know and I could not stand The Art Institute (a waste of money if you ask me). Anyway I left and know I am going into Game Design and Developement. To tell you the truth from my experience with knowing people in the field it is difficult to get into an animation/ video game field without a degree or the knowledge behind it and proof of that knowledge as well. So it does depend on what you want to get into and whether it is worth college. From my experience I have known a lot of people that don't go to college and only maybe a few are making decent money. The rest can't make it because most places ask for experience they don't have and a degree.
Those I know in college have made it big and met so many people through college that they would not meet any other way.
SO college is good to go to if you want the experience in the field and you have no connections.

"Leave all video games? Wtf will you do when there is nothing happening that night or in your free time?"
Well usually on friday and saturday nights you go out and "party". Free time is about what you make it.... hang out with friends put the video game son the shelve for at least the first semester.
"Don't bring a car? Are you serious? You have to go places./ Don't go home? Way to abandon your family."
Dont bring a car is what i belive. You wanna go somewhere take a bus/cab you learn alot relying on others. When i said dont go home i relaly belive dont. The key to first semester is to find a close group of friends... how are you supposed to do this if your home every weekend. P.S. the cost of college+coast of car> your finances gurenteed.
"Dump all boyfriends/girlfriends and significant others? That's useless "advice"...if your relationship is serious, you won't have any problems, even though it's "tough". And if you do run into problems, everything can be worked out."
Belive me if you are dating a significant other it will be extermly tough and difficult dont go into college dating someone unless you plan on getting engaged.
As for people who said college isnt worth it check these facts:
No diploma Diploma Some college Bachlors degree
Yearly paid $25,095 $34,303 $40,337 $56,334
"http://mets.maine.edu/parents/college_important.html"
P.S. i would like to see some almamaters posted
P.SS I said people who have went to college please comment and you obviously havent.

Wow s8krdhrt, you are certainly no poster child for your alumni's English department, that's for sure!
I guess your whole list would be helpful... but it all depends on people's personality. I hate checklists like that because everyone is different and no one knows how or what to do until they do it themselves when faced with the situation. I did hardly half of whatever you said there and it was still fun and I did pretty well.
My best advice would be to know what you want going into college and stick to it. So many people I know start going with one major and then they switch it like 3 times before ever graduating. That's such a waste of money and time. Of course, it's better to switch majors rather than end up doing something you hate, but if you do a little soul searching before you start it will help you out in the long run.
Also, make it your number 1 priority to get out as soon as possible. Most 4 year degrees can be done in much less time if you're dedicated enough. Think of all the free time you'll have afterwards without ever having to think about classes and let that be your motivation.
Another thing would be what OME6A said, don't even bother with college if you don't want to do it or whatever you want in life doesn't require a degree unless you wanna move up the ladder in a company. It's such a waste of money and time and you'll have a much harder time. I know many wealthy people who don't have a degree
btw, I graduated from University of Central Florida and I'm currently in law school.

I have a friend who is thinking about applying there, and if all else fails I may do also.
Just wondering: Whats it like up there? Does it have a lot of new technology or is it all old crappy stuff? Any info would be appreciated.
I have quite a few colleges in mind:
1 - Full Sail ~ $83k for just over 2 years of video game design
2 - International Academy of Design and Technology (IADT)
3 - D.A.V.E School (Universal back-lot)
4 - Devry (Millenia mall)
5 - UCF or USF
Quite a selection right there, and they are all within decent driving distance from my house. Although expensive, college seems like a good idea.
I just took my SAT's (for those who know what they are) on Saturday, and they will basically help me get into college pending a good score.
One thing I know about college: If you waste your time partying and all that good stuff we like to do in High School, you just wasted $40k or whatever you paid.
Oh, and if everything goes to pot and I for some reason have no money, I'm going back to England. College pretty much consists of paying for books only.
I shall PM you later... -Swiss
