Official "Is the PS3 worth it?" Thread

I'm 360 all the way, I don't have $600 sitting around and most of my friends have a 360 or they still have their PS2s. I like the games that are out and I'm happy with the overall play of the console. But to tell you the truth, the Wii is at the top of my list.

I'll eventually ahve all three. Considering first my 360 has to come back from the repair place, and my tax return needs to get here. Boobs.

The XBOX 360 is better than PS3 as of right now, however, I have a PS3 and I cant wait until all the good games come out. Once that happens over the next few months and years ps3 will beat microsoft. XBOX 360 has really good online service but its not free like the Playstation Network. I for one would rather have free online service without gamer scores and accomplishments scores and cool stuff than one with that stuff that you have to pay for. PS3 will definately have better games than xbox 360 soon. right now xbox has gears of war and most of the games for ps3 are ports of xbox 360 but when games like metal gear solid 4, warhawk, lair, etc. youll be happy with the ps3.

Ps3 basically has:

-better games than xbox 360 that are going to come out
-free online service
-motion sensitive controls makes games really fun like blazing angels
-bluray player (normally bluray players cost $1200)

But dont get the ps3 if your neighbors are selling it to you for over $500/$600 depending on the model (20GB or 60GB) Also if you have other, current gen systems (xbox, ps2) you might want to get a next-gen system that can play your old games . But thats my opinion, Do what you want to i guess.

I couldn't disagree with you more... the 360 has quite a few more good games available than Gears of War. If you're going to state your opinion, at least make some of it based in factual information.

The PS3 might have been worth its asking price had Sony decided to back the console up with some games when it launched in November... I'd like to know why they have yet to have Rainbow Six Vegas on their system. I am now willing to bet that it will be a half-crocked version of its "big brother" on the Xbox 360... hell, from what I have heard, the PS3 version of R6V might not even have the downloadable update that the 360 is getting in a couple of weeks.

Good decision to delay the release of R6V, Sony... glad I'm not forced to play it on your new console.

As the days and weeks go by, more and more game developers that were once exclusive to only Sony will start "jumping ship" and either: develop the game for multiple consoles, or go to Xbox 360 entirely.

(Case in point: Assassin's Creed)

Sony messed up on their console launch this time around... it could very well wind up costing them dearly.

I will have both the 360 and PS3 as time passes, I'm waiting for the PS3 to have something come out that proves to me 100 percent that it is worth the $600-$700 that I may pay for it. So far, I'm very satisfied with my 360 purchase, and I would have been an idiot to get the PS3 over 360 so soon. Right now, the PS3 has NOTHING to back up it's hype, but the 360 has damn near everything. Now some might come in and say "well the 360 has been out longer". I DON'T CARE. The Ps3 has been out long enough to get some good games behind it.

So to anyone that will ask the question "Is the PS3 worth it?", here is your answer.

YES...eventually. Right now, no.

I still roll with the ps1 yo respek.
I might get a ps3 in like a year or so when I have a well paying job and can afford it on my own. Right now 360 doesnt have many games out that are good from what me and my friends like. Ps3 looks more promising in the future.

I never said Gears of War was the only good XBOX 360 game out. I just said that was one of them and I should have written that GoW seems to be the most popular right now along with R6:V. Tons of my friends have 360s and they have a lot of good games like rainbow six vegas, dead rising, saints row, ghost recon, etc. Xbox has alot of good games out right now.

Gimme a break... the only good game that the PS3 has to offer is the soon-to-be-released MGS4, which should be out in October/November 2007.

According to my math, unless it is released sooner than that, that's a year after the PS3 was launched.

I'd also suggest not holding your breath for R6V to be released "soon" on PS3... let me remind you that R6V was supposed to be a PS3 launch title.

Personally I wouldn't count any of these as selling points.

If anything, online service should be something you want to pay for, unless you're 13 yrs old. The product is all but guaranteed to be more reliable, have better features, and support.

Motion sensing controls seem like a great idea, yet often result in great frustration.

Blu-ray isn't the selling point it once had the potential to be. In fact, Sony just shot themselves in the PS3 by releasing a stand-alone blu-ray player for $599. Prices will continue to drop from there. HD-DVD technology is rapidly advancing, and within this year HD-DVD capacity will exceed that of blu-ray, which is Sony's last bragging point on the topic.

And if Ubisoft's past work on porting their designed for xbox games to a playstation is any indication, it'll be done extremely half-assed and pale in comparison to the original.
