Which error? In the thread title, you tell us you're getting server error 39.
In the thread itself, you tell us you're getting server error 38.
Either way, there is a sticky at the very top of this section full of errors.
Verification/ Error Codes/ Router, Mic fixes.

First I opened up my router interface and I deleted the port forwards that I created for the mic to work. From there I was able to get on and download the patch (Twice??!!) and then I was able to login with no server error 38. So this is not an error with the Socom servers but something with the login. I set up an address reservation in my router so that the PS2 will always get 198.162.1.3 as an IP address. I think that was the problem that it had a different IP than the first time.
Anyway I was able to get online without the server error. I have a Netgear WGR614 wireless router. Hope this helps others. I may not be correct on the reason this error happenes but I really do not think that it is on their end because I have talked to others who were able to get online while I could not.
