It's very possible to die of drinking too much water, but very uncommon.

You basically drown your cells, therefore drowning yourself.

Cant be a fun way to die either. It would be like drowning from the inside out.

I've heard of this before. Don't quote me on this, but certain amounts of water (dependent on person) can deplete all the sodium in your body, and flood your cells. The pressure can rupture the cells and swell the brain.

Yea, you basically dilute your body's sodium cells.

I just looked online and the actual name for the dilution of sodium is hyponatremia.

We were discussing this in my English class sometime last week, and my teacher thinks you need approximately 30 glasses of water in one hour to actually suffer from this kind of thing.

I cant drink a single glass of water in an hour (I hate the stuff) but in a contest, I cant see 30 glasses been too optimistic.

.... And they tell you to drink plenty of water, pffft.

WTF? How can you not like water? You can't even taste it, and it's sooo good after running/working out. Beats Gatorade by a long shot.

As for the story, I saw the same thing on Gamebattles. Stupid contest, and really wierd way to die. I feel it for their kids.

Being the cold hearted bastard I am, I found 2 things humourous in this, yet no tragedy.

1, the name of the contest. "Hold your wee for a Wii". I love it.
2, her name. Jennifer Strange. Her name depicted the way she died. Not often that happens.

Not true this is very common in marathons and or triathalons. It happened just last year in the Boston Marathon.

your cells become like hyperosmotic or your solute and salts and stuff in your cells become too diluted... Not a good thing... Causes your cells to burst like said above.... I just learned this stuff in my bio class even though Ive heard about it before...

I was really talking about it based on the "general public" but I am sure it happens quite a bit regarding athletes.

They sweat and all that, and then they overcompensate by unkowingly drowning themselves.

To be honest, I agree with Bamf, the reasons for it happening are so retarded and wouldn't you rather drown from an alcohol drinking contest rather than water? (Joke, don't flame)

That's the reason I don't drink it, whats the point in drinking the equivalent of the contents of a rain cloud?

Gatorade is crappy too, but its better than water.

The only time I will drink water (and I mean the only time) is when I have been running like you said. But been the fat Guy I am, I don't do that often. ;-)

You'll probably die from a liver disease..and if you don't understand where I'm coming from:

You NEED water to flush your liver.
