Yeah, use whatever fits you best in normal rooms, nobody should say anything. I personally love a good SR-25 on convoy. 
The only reason they are pretty much banned from QS rooms are because those rooms are meant for M87/M82 practice. So when someones not using an M87/M82, it's not really practice,  you know?
