Got the new monitor, but a few problems.
Just got my new monitor delivered to my house. Installed the drivers, set up everything, and it looks good. I ended up getting the View Sonic VX924 19inch lcd.
A couple issues I was wondering if I could get help with. I have what you would call a "stuck" pixel. It is on the lower half of the screen, sort of in middle but only about 1cm off the bottom toolbar. It isn't really affecting the picture except on very dark colors suck as dark greens, blues, and black. I was wondering if someone could offer me a program or some tips. I downloaded a program called "UD Pixel 2.1" which helps reactivate and reset stuck pixels. It said basically to let it run for a couple hours, possibly over night, and it should help reactivate the pixel.
That isn't the main problem, though. The graphics look amazing, but Windows Media Player is screwed up. The picture is really off. I had this problem a while back when I first got World of Warcraft. I needed new Nvidia drivers, so after I downloaded them for the game the colors were messed up. I got very direct instructions on how to fix the problem back then about 2 years ago, but I can't find the answer now. I was wondering if anyone knows how to properly set the windows media player so the picture isn't messed up. Streaming videos online which don't use WMP are perfect. WMP is just screwy.
So, if anyone has insight on either of those issues I would be very appreciative. Thanks in advance, guys.

I'll direct you here for the Dead Pixels.
http://www.video-game-forums.com/tec...ls-fix-em.html
I suppose you're supposed to leave them on overnight, like you said...but I havent had the chance to do it on my laptop with one in the bottom right area.
For the windows thing, I'm not sure of. I suppose I can try to find something relating to WMP problems.
Any of these?

About the dead / stuck pixel: it depends on whether it's in fact dead, or just stuck.
If the pixel is some color other than "off" (black), then there's a chance that you can get it back. If the pixel never shows any color, just black, then it's dead. But since you said that it only has an effect on dark colors, I'd assume it's not black, so there's a chance it'll work.
I could be wrong with my assumption, however; if it's black, all hope is lost!

It is bright red. It is infact a stuck pixel. I downloaded a program as I said called UD Pixel 2.1 which helps to reset the pixel. The dot has decreased significantly in size and vibrance. Basically the only time it truly stands out and hurts my eyes is on black, or very dark greens and blues now. This program seems to be working, and it only covers 5x5 pixel range on my screen. I barely notice the program running.
It flashes through every color at your designated speed and takes up a very small space. It said to use it while working and the pixel should be fixed within a couple days. If you leave it on over night, which I won't, they said it could reset within 8 hours or so. I'm lucky apparently that it is only 1 stuck pixel. I heard of some monitors being shipped with 5 stuck or dead pixel with the refund contract stating 7+ pixels to return anything. It is a cheap little thing these companies do.
Anyway, my graphics are still a little screwy. I uninstalled all my video drivers and downloaded the most recent nvidia drivers for my card. The WMP trouble looks to be gone, but I need to work on adjusting the contrast, brightness, and colors for my monitor. I can't even see the silver scrolling bar against the white background on the right of internet explorer. As I said, it seems the light colors are too light and the darks are too dark. Bah.
My friend is selling me a slightly used ATI Radeon 1600 Pro 128mb graphics card from 2005. It is a big boost from my Geforce 5600 ultra 128mb card from 2003 which has about had it as well. He is coming over Monday afternoon and installing it as well as fixing my colors and everything and seeing if he can optimize my computer for best graphics quality. I am really excited to get a nice monitor and a boost in graphics for the release of WoW: Burning Crusade. My eyes aren't hurting me either, and the screen isn't blindingly bright.
