Expect Extreme PS3 Shortages

I just traveled to my local EB games and the Wal-Mart in my town. At EB games there is a list of 2000 people that have put there names in a hat for a drawing to get the new console. Between EB Games and Wal-Mart my town is only getting around 6 (count’em, just six) PS3s for a pretty large customer base here in NC.

Some information from Sony:

Just 500,000 machines will arrive at launch with Japan reportedly earmarked to receive 100,000.

Severe shortages are almost certain, while publishers will be hard-pressed to leverage significant pre-Holiday sales from these numbers. Many will seek to hold releases until a significant user-base has been established. Despite this, Sony insists it will still hit its March target of six million shipments, despite the European launch also being inside that window.

I foresee that many people around the states will not get there hands on one until at least March of 2007. This is like spitting in the eye of downed fighter, after you laid him out with a haymaker. If you are able to pick one of these machines up, then count yourself lucky. With the high cost of the console and the lack of them could possibly put a serious hurting on Sony’s customers’ loyalty. If you do get your hands on one, don’t expect great games until at least March, when there is a much larger customer base.

500,000 is still more then what microsoft had out at launch. And this is old news btw. BUt, microsoft had a shortage somewhat on purpose, which is good, because then it prevented me of buying that crapfest of a console. While sony on the other hand I dont think they can help having a shortages, due to problems with the consoles, and some parts not being produced fast enough.

I don't care...as long as they actually have the PS3s to give, I'm cool. Better it being a short amount for a time being than none at all, eh?

14 total games, and 6 unique games in the first 2 months after release and within the holiday season. Blazing Angels is the only one I have even heard of. That didn't look too appealing from the information I recieved, though. Please enjoy those games, guys. We will be enjoying our dozen or so unique titles which are going to be released in those months....not to mention the multi-platform titles which are orange above.

It's frustrating that they wont have enough consoles for launch. Everybody should be able to get a fair shake at getting one. They should'nt even release the system at all until they get much better Numbers. I got a 360, and I love it.. It Pains me to hear that the Controllers for the PS3 wont be Vibration Sensitive because of the Motion sensors. I've looked into some of the 30 or games that would be available at launch and I'm not all that impressed.

30 games? Look above. There are only 14 games. 8 of which are already out for 360, or will be released at the same time as it is for PS3.
