Here is a good recap bob.
It's starting to look like each of these first six episodes (before Lost takes its hiatus till Feb.) will feature another piece of the story and center around different characters, creating in a sense, six premiere episodes. The first epi, as we know, surrounded what had happened to Kate, Sawyer, and Jack after being taken captive by The Others, and also gave us some (but not nearly enough) of The Others' back story.
While we saw some of what happens next to Kate, Sawyer and Jack this week, this was really the Jin, Sun, and Sayid show. Jin and Sun's story was the featured flashback, and most of the present day action revealed how Jin, Sun and Sayid's rescue mission was faring.
In the flashback, we learn that Sun has a history of lying. She is first shown as a child, lying to her father about a Glass Ballerina she broke. Later, she is revealed to have had an affair with her former (arranged) boyfriend and now english teacher, Jae. Sun's father, a prominent businessman, (and also what appears to be a Korean "Tony Soprano") catches her in a compromising position in a hotel room with Jae. Daddy then asks his henchman, Jin, to "put an end to the situation." Without revealing what had transpired, Dad told Jin that this man (Jae) had stolen something from him and must be dealt with.
Jin reluctantly carried out the mission, but rather than killing Jae, just roughed him up... A LOT!! and tried to put the fear of God into him, demanding that he leave the country and never come back. Sadly, Jae decided not just to leave the country.. but to leave this world, jumping out the window. Using expert markmanship, Jae manages to land RIGHT on Jin's car as he sat behind the wheel relieved that he had resolved the situation without killing the guy. Great Parking choice, Jin... REALLY, what are the odds??
Back to the present day, Jack is still locked up in the aquarium and still refusing Juliet's food. Kate and Sawyer are sent to a work area where she is expected to break up rocks in her pretty little dress, and Sawyer is expected to haul them away. If they give The Others any grief about their work for the day, they are told they can expect a Tazing.
The sight of Kate working in the skimpy dress touches and tempts Sawyer, and he risks a Tazing in order to give in and plant a big wet one on her. He does get quite a shock for this. (Does this mean that Kate and Sawyer have ELECTRICITY? - Sorry, couldn't resist.)
Sayid, Jin, and Sun meanwhile disembark Desmond's boat. We learn that their plan is to build a signal fire to draw out The Others, and then ambush them. Sayid plans to keep two hostage. "Two", Sayid says, "so that I can make one cooperate." Jin had some serious hesitations about this plan and particularly about Sun being there. Unfortunately, no one listened to him, and Sayid probably didn't think this whole thing through very well. The Others did indeed show up, but they weren't attracted to the fire, they were attracted to the boat. Jin and Sayid had left Sun alone in the boat feeling she would be safer there (Apparently neither of them ever saw "Dead Calm" ) At least Sayid told her where he had left an extra gun "just in case." She needed it, and managed to blow away the first Other she encountered, a grumpy gal who was clearly jealous of Juliet and had a thing for Ben/Henry/Creepiest Actor Ever.
There were PLENTY of other Others, however, and they managed to steal the boat. Dodging a rain of gunfire, Sun managed to jump overboard. Jin and Sayid, while staking out the fire in the woods, hear the gun exchange and rush to the dock in time to see the boat being sailed away. Jin jumps into the water and swims towards it, and is reunited with Sun, who is OK. They now have a LONG walk ahead of them to get back to camp.
We still don't know much more about what the Others are up to, except that Juliet is starting to appear even more sinister than Henry/Ben (always got watch out for those "nice" ones.) And that more than anything, they WANTED THAT BOAT. The episode ended with Henry Gale making Jack a very Wizard-of-Oz-like offer. "Do as I say, and I'll get you home." Will Jack have to tap his heels together 3 times and repeat, "I want to go home?" Something tells me it's going to be a little more than that.
