First Job :(

I am being pressured by my parents into getting a job. Can you guys tell me what a good job would be in terms of pay and hours. It's either a job or an internship at IBM.

Apply at places that you can see yourself working, not a place where you will hate..do you want to stand on your feet all day? Do you want to deal with people? Do you want to stock shelves? Stuff like that..

Whatever you do, do NOT procrastinate! You want to get a job ASAP, to start bringing in the money..the more you save now the better off you'll be later on. Lastly, do not be scared/nervous or shy to go in and fill out an application..there's nothing to be nervous about, everyone does it and there's nothing to be ashamed about or anything.

But since it's your first job that you'll be getting, you don't have much to work with as far as your pay goes..it really just depends on how much your boss/whoever feels like giving you.

You can't be picky or you will never get a job. The job market is tough.

Focus' advice was good... use that as a starting point.

My first job was at Blockbuster. That was awesome because I really like movies and games and I got free rentals and got to see movies and play games before they came out. I was friends with the managers too so I got away with sitting in the back room when I wanted to... good times... the pay sucked though but I kind of miss it now.

Although Real Estate and being self employed has its own perks as well and pretty decent pay...

Yep, I'll be saying that till the day I die. I'm working at KFC and it's the shittest job ever. Pay is low, Long and Late hours every day and the work is really feral. Cleaning filthy **** like insides of deep fryers, bins, oil, grease, fat, chicken scraps, the list goes forever.

DONT WORK AT KFC!!!

I mow lawns, does that count? But next summer when I'm out of school for summer break, I'm probably going to work two jobs. I'm going to be a hired hand on a farm sense that's what North Dakotians do. Then I'm gonna get a evening job at Best Buy.

Life guarding man. I do it. I get paid $10.75 per hour and it is glorious. Some days we have to some serious work but hey, one day out of like...ten days is bearable. Look into that and I assure you that you will not be disappointed.
