New way of looking at things...

A lot of people wont stuff F*n bad mouthing S3 and what not, and continue to say that S2 was the greatest and what not. Notice how it is extremely rare for somebody to say their favourite is 1? That's because S1 still had some things to be smoothed out. (Just like S3) S2 fixed all those things and made the game 10X better. (Most people never played 1 so they don't know this) So lets think of S3 as S1 right now. (Seeing how it is basically like a whole new game (game-engine wise) S:CA should be the "smoothed-out" version of S3. So just for making myself more understandable i'll say something like Socom 1 was like a beta for the almighty S2, and S3 is kinda like a huge beta for SCA. (lol and don't start saying dumb crap like "I don't want to play a beta i want a whole game" etc. It was just to get me point across. Anyway, thoughts?

Yes, but:

CA is socom 3 + guns and maps.

However, in my opinion all socom 3 needs to make it a great game is some really solid, fun multiplayer maps.

If the maps require teamwork to survive, then it would be a little better than S3. But, if they go ahead and put CPU's for accuracy/training (multiplayer), the game might be taken to a whole new level.

Some maps are fine, others could be better..

But Socom 2 was Socom 1 + guns and maps..except the only difference between 1 to 2 and 3 to CA is that 3 and CA will be on a shared server.

Also, the original Socom was the best.

Let me be the first to say that Socom 2 was not a very good game, and paled in comparison. But what I've noticed is that most people who've played both like Socom 2 more - and I've also discovered that this comes mostly (probably around 80%) from people who played Socom 2 before the original. This leads me to believe that if you got addicted to the original, you thought Socom 2 was mediocre. The same applies vice versa.

My point? If someone picked up Socom 3 as their first Socom game and thought it was good, they'd probably try renting or buying Socom 2 and would be disappointed.

Most people, however, had Socom 2 before the original and before Socom 3, which is why, I postulate, Socom 2 always wins polls for being the best of the three. I contend it is the worst.

Now on to the topic. If Socom was the "beta" for Socom 2 and Socom 3 is the "beta" for Socom:CA, then why did they even release one and three? The theory doesn't really make sense, and I'm assuming CA will be mostly identical to Socom 3. Socom 2 is the only one that doesn't fit in with the pack, and it was a terrible mistake in the first place in my opinion. I'm not going to buy another Socom game because of it, just to point out where I stand.

I agree with your "theory" on this. I myself have thought that this is how it was for awhile now. When I played S1 (not too much, just a tid bit) it was fun and I liked it. The when S2 came out, I liked it even more. Then came S3, and I like it as much as S2, if not a tid bit more. Now I'm waiting for CA and I think it will bring to the table what S2 did. It will have a more "addicting" feel to it (for most people) and will become the new "in" game once more.

Socom 3 over all is better than 1 & 2. I started playing on Socom 1 and ever since I touched the controler I've been an addict to the series. But I won't go as far as saying they are better than 3.

The one thing that was good about S2 was the maps and this is the one problem that I dislike about S3. S3 maps are pretty bad when compared to S2. They aren't as fast paced and are either biased for snipers or against then.

S3 gives us the oppertunity to frag an additional 16 people and the possibility to customize the weopons and kit. This has broadened the scope of game play and allowed for a more versitile approach to each map. Additionally they have included the use of vehicals which add an additional stratigic element to the game.

I loved S1 and played non stop from the night it went online till the release of S2. I think S2 was a great innovation on S1. S3, to me is a different game than the latter and lacks the SOCOM "feel" that 1 and 2 had. S1 and S2 had some great solid maps that were fun over and over again. In my opinion S3 three lacks this. I feel most of the maps are frankly boring and in my estimation were hap hazardly put toghether to get the game out. Just my two-cents
