okay about 75% when i put my socom 3 disc into my playstation, the disc isnt read. sometimes it will just stay at the playstation home screen, other times it will start up, then exit and go to the browser screen where it says the disc is in, but it wont load. one time, a screen came up saying put please insert a playstation or playstation 2 format disc, but THE DISC WAS ALREADY IN! this is starting to really get on my nerves. Any ideas?

Thanx.
I had the same problem with my older version of the ps2. it would play certain games but wouldnt load for others. it was clear to me that it had nothing to do with the game so the only solution i came up with was too buy a new slim ps2.
yeah, just use a lens cleaner, they're cheap. be sure your disc is dirt, finger print, and scratch free. If you have scratches on the disc, go get a small tin of Brasso and clean it, re-try it. Still doesn't work then it is the ps2.

Just sen your ps2 back to sony they will fix it for $45 andd send it back to you
if you are daring enough to fix it yourself you can try to open the case being very carefull not to rip off the ribbon cord from your eject button, then take of the cover for the cd rom portion, look for a white wheel in the back with teeth on it ( a gear ) that positions the laser on the disc if you mark it with a felt tip pen and adjust it back and forth a few notches and keep trying your disc you will find the correct adjustment, i have done this to over 5 ps2's and it has always worked unless the laser eye is just fried!
If its just a case of the laser sometimes a quick blow (suits you) will suffice in the short term however just using some strong alchol is usually enough, like whiskey or vodka.

I had the same problem with my fatty PS2. The funny thing is it will still play PS1 games but will just refuse to read PS2 games. I used the disc cleaner and canned compressed to blow out the tray. I have two fatty PS2 s that have done this so I might do some experimental surgery today because I miss my HDD maps from Socom 2.. Since I have bought a Diet PS2
