I thought it'd be a good idea to make a thread in which everyone can post their top five or so favorite bands. In no way will this be easy (or possible, in some cases) for music lovers, as I am having a hard time deciding this, but we all have a few bands that we will never stop listening to.
Anyway, just post about five of your favorite bands and perhaps a reason/story behind it.
My favorite genre of music is metal. It has been for many years. The first metal song I listened to was Spit It Out by Slipknot back when they were still in diapers and was hooked ever since. They opened me to the metal world.
In no particular order, here is the list I made...
Slipknot
No matter how famous they get, no matter how many idiotic kids who think they understand what it's all about like them, I'll always listen to them. No one looks like them, sounds like them, or puts on a show like them.
As I Lay Dying
There isn't one thing I dislike about them. I love every song they've made. One thing that I love about them, which no other band does, is nearly every second of every song, different cymbals are constantly being hit. It sounds amazing.
The Black Dahlia Murder
Just as the previous two bands, there isn't a single band that sounds like them. From the intense drumming, to the impossible vocals, they tear **** up. My favorite thing about them is their vocalist. You wouldn't believe they only have one singer.
The Bloodhound Gang
How can you not love Bloodhound? They mix humor, great beats, and overall kick *** music all in one. Their entire style of how they present themselves is hilarious, yet great at the same time.
Lamb of God
LOG will rip your balls off, straight up. They are one of the craziest bands I know, and I have witnessed that on stage. Whenever you listen to LOG, you automatically get in a killing mode. They will pump you up.
This was a really hard choice and I know I could have added more bands, but the bands I listed are definitely my favorite bands. Hopefully we'll get some good responses from this. Have fun with it.

Led Zeppelin- With out a doubt Led Zeppelin was the largest band of the 70's and no other band comes close to their greatness in my mind. Led Zeppelin are The Beatles of Hard Rock. They branched out with different sounds but it always stayed rock and roll. They made it ok for hard rock to be played on radio stations and brought huge crowds to their shows. Jimmy Page is in my mind the greatest guitarist of all time, he is so dedicated to making his music exceptionally good and was the reason that Zeppelin took off. Robert Plant is an amazing singer, he has a sound like no other and his vocal range was unheard of. John Bonham (RIP) had the reputation for being the loudest drummer in England when Zeppelin was young, he was truly the first Heavy Metal Drummer. John Paul Jones Bass and Keyboard arrangements were the glue that held their songs together.
Black Sabbath- The orginal pioneers of Heavy Metal Black Sabbath had a dark chilling sound like no other. After Ozzy left the band, it changed a lot of how the band sounded, but when they found Dio he was a great replacement. Still no one was as great as Ozzy in that band and he will always be remebered as their frontman.
Jimi Hendrix/The Jimi Hendrix Experiance- No one acomplished more then Jimi Hendrix in a short amount of time like he did. In a career that lasted only 3 years, Jimi became known as one of the greatest guitarist ever. He left us with so many classics and inspired many to pick up the guitar and learn to play.
Pink Floyd- They had a unique sound that no one had heard before. Fusing psychedelic sounds with rock they gave us some of the greatest albums that are still holding records today.
The Who- Many believe that The Who was the first punk band with their crazy stage shows and fast paced music. The Who had a band full of great musicians who could play crazy bass lines and awesome drum solos. They were one of the first hard rock bands in the 60s and made it possible for other hard rock bands to follow in the footsteps.
Well those are my five bands, sorry for some of the long paragraphs but I like talking about music. :)
Blink-182 They're music is amazing. They can play a song like "I Wanna **** a Dog in the ***" and then play a song like "Stay Together for the Kids". I really love they're music and some of theyre songs are insperational.
The White Stripes Each song from them is completley different. Although it is risky, most of their songs are good.
Guns and Roses They're music is just amazing. No one every sounded like them and never will. I still listen to "Paradise City".
Boy, that is a tuff one. There are many of the newer bands(to me anyway) that are good. Guns and Roses, AC/DC, ZZ Top, etc. But I'll pick some of the ones I liked, as a kid.
Paul Revere and the Raiders: I've just always liked them. I like the music and the way they act on the stage. Just a fun group to watch and listen too. I guess Paul's still around with the new Raiders, but it's not the same as the old group. You don't hear them much anymore, on the oldies stations. But I'll break out one of their albums somethimes, and just enjoy!
The Beatles: Not really much else to say about them. Their music still works after all these years, in so many ways.
The Rolling Stones: Not as good as the Beatles, I think. But still a great group, that has some of the best music ever made.
The Beach Boys: I really loved their music! The music was always fun to listen and sing to. And I guess, more than anything, I was a surfer type dude as a kid.
There are many more: Jan and Dean, The Dave Clark Five, Herman Hermits, The Turtles, Loving Spoon-Full, Mamas and the Papas, The Monkeys, Jefferson Airplane, etc.
Blink-182 They're music is amazing. They can play a song like "I Wanna **** a Dog in the ***" and then play a song like "Stay Together for the Kids". I really love they're music and some of theyre songs are insperational
I love Blink 182, they are awsome. I loe their songs for as long as i can remember, too bad they split up. I have almost every album on my ipod.
5. 311: Perfect blend of music, slinky bass lines, Reggae fused and countless classics, even though their last album " Don't Tread On Me " is the weakest of many great CD's it still has some good tracks , oh and the ladies really dig um too !!!!
Recommended Albums: Soundsystem , Transistor, Music
4. Gwar: I have seen no other band as many times live or in as many states as Gwar and they have the most albums on my I-pod. They have recently gone back to pure Fing Metal. I love going to their shows and just getting showered with the fake stage blood, cool and refreshing when moshing and going to the bars after the show gets you the best stares. Recommended Albums: Vio-lence Has Arrived , War Party, Scumdogs of the Universe,--- just buy them alll
3. Lamb Of God: LOG was one of those bands where someone hands you the cd and your blown away for the rest of your life. I hear LOG and I want to put my fist through glass and smash people in the face with a sledgehammer ( now that's what I call music )
recommended : Ashes of the Wake , As the Palace Burns
2. Slayer: Through the years they have never changed not one bit. Totally Consistant, Totally Brutal. I've left Slayer concerts with broken ankles. Their drummer, Dave Lombardo is arguably one of the most underated , best drummers around.
recommended: South of Heaven, God Hates Us All
1. Clutch: Clutch is just the grooviest stuff with massive hints of Sabbath and Zeppelin. The song library is just massive and not all of it is on CD . They're CDs just keep getting better and better. It's classified as Stoner Rock for those that classify
recommended: ** Blast Tyrant ** , Elephant Riders, Self Titled Clutch ( Space Album )
Other honorable mentions : Fugazi, Morphine, Primus, Queens of the Stone Age
1)Chimaira- too kick *** to not be on my number one spot.
2)Slipknot- previously on my #1 spot, but dethroned by Chimaira
3)Nodes of Ranvier- Good clean Christian Metal with kick *** riffs.
4)Norma Jean- Hardcore in your face Christian Metal.
5)In Flames- These Sweedish dudes rock.
1.) (effin) Nirvana!!! One of the very few bands where I can listen to any one of their CDs from start to finish... greatest band of the '90s, in my opinion... plus, they have an awesome collection of rare songs, which are nearly impossible to find at "regular" music stores. And look at my name here on the forums/Xbox Live/SOCOM... Negative Creep - track# 7 on their debut album, "Bleach".
2.)Metallica: Quite possibly the single reason why I listened to heavy metal/thrash way back in high school. Metallica at the UIC Pavillion (in Chicago) was one of the first concerts I ever went to... hell, my Dad had to drive my friends and I to see it - none of us had our driver's licenses yet!
3.)Megadeth: See listing of reasons above. I can't remember how many times I have seen them live in concert... but needless to say, it was more than a handful of times.
4.)Alice in Chains: Saw them live at the "Clash of the Titans" tour back in 1990 or 1991... and this was BEFORE they got all popular with "Man in the Box" even. I like their sound in a close second with Nirvana's sound. Yet another tragic story of a young musical talent that left us too soon...
5.)Slayer: In my opinion... they are one of the FASTEST and LOUDEST bands that I have ever witnessed at a live concert. I was headbanging so violently during one of their concerts, that I fell out of my chair and damn near killed myself. Definitely one of the first times that I smelled marijuana at a concert... ahhh, good times.
That's what I'm talking about, Nun. When I hear songs like Now You've Got Something To Die For, The Faded Line, and 11th Hour, you get pumped up.

Underoath-Just a downright amazing band, nothing more to it..
Alesana-Amazing vocals, and lyrics
He Is Legend-One again..amazing vocals..mainly the screamer..and the fact that they only have one vocalist, who does both screaming and normal vocals..
BlessthFall-Can't explain, I just REALLY like their music
