LMAO. I just got a cease and decist letter from Sony/Zipper. I won't type verbatum, but plain and simple, they want me to stop accessing their server.

I have some proprietary rights to what I am doing, so I am going to battle it. Some of you may notice that my website is down, that's due to this situation. I hope to have it resolved soon. They reqested that my ISP suspend my account.

Well of course. Did you expect them NOT to do anything if they found out? What you are doing is sort of ILLEGAL . I just hope you win it,because I want to keep my stats in my sig.

Damn Casper, this sucks. It was always a looming fear, but I never thought they'd take an action like this.

Please let me and all of us know if there's anything that can be done to help. You've certainly got the full support of this community.

Here is some para-phrase from the 3 page letter I received:

"...your continued access to our Online server places an unwated stress to our already burdened transfer clauses."

"...continued distribution of players online stats without the consent of individual parties is against Sony America's privacy policy."

"...we ask that you cease your 'Stat Grabber' script form accessing our server so that we do not have to take further measures...against you."

"Be aware that if you are making any profit form the sale of the material received from our site, you will be legally bound to forfeit all funds to the appropriate parties...to avoid any civil charges."

It goes on and on like that for three pages. I called my attorney who handles all my legal stuff for my business and we talked for about 2 hours. He said that it looks like I have done nothing illegal, and the material I produce is original material.

The only thing that belongs to them is the numbers. He also said that if they do decide to release XML feeds now, they will have to be totally different than mine, or I could sue.

Anyway, just thought I'd share.
