OK, i've played this game for a while now...

I don't care if there are a lot of A-holes in this game, I love Socom's community out of all the games i've played out there. (Which include Halo, HL2, WoW, FFXI, and many more) Just playing with a group of cool people makes the game fun. If you get in games with laid back players who want to do good but still have fun, then youll probably end up in the same room for hours.

I'm now getting the hang of maps, weapons, and so forth and i'm having a blast. My rating for this game is up now. Easily 9 out of 10. I go into detail later.

After playing SOCOM 3 for the past couple of days, I have been in a much better "SOCOM-gaming" mood because of it. Case in point... people actually fall dead after hitting them a few times (or less), it's much more fun to play, vehicles are fun as hell to rip around certain maps in, the maps are bigger and MUCH less laggy, it's much more fun to play, being able to see people from your clan & friends list logging on the game NO MATTER where you're navigating around the game at (while online), the game runs at a higher framerate... and did I mention it's much more fun to play?!?!??

Seriously though... it IS this much more fun. Put SOCOM 1 and 2 together, and you're still falling short of this game's fun.

Hell, even the single player missions are by far the best of the SOCOM series!

One small map (like Frostfire) would be nice. The main problem I've seen is everyone running around trying to find the fight. On respawn, if you dont spawn close to a vehicle or right in the middle of a firefight, you got to waste time running around. Carry some mines, and RPG, and good rifle and you just about need a motorized chair.

Being able to pick your spawn point is a plus, until the other team figures out where those points are. With 32 players on a map, a team can easily split up and still be effective at camping.

Plus- putting a good scope on the M16 and being able snipe OR run and gun. So far, this is my fav combo, very effective, although it is a bit easier to snipe on single-shot.

Red Dot and Laser- so-so, I think it covers too much of the target on a big map, on citadel last night, I liked the laser on a shotty. Slug ammo for the shotty? It would be better if it weren't a shoot and load deal, it takes too long.

Reload and fire mode- at least the annoying accidental reloads and fire mode changes are near impossible. On the downside, if you change modes to snipe, load a frag, etc, or try to do a quick reload, it takes longer than with Socom 2.

The flexibility with weapons is great, you can tailor your weapon to whatever the situation dictates, and now terr;s have GOOD suppressed weapons, instead of only the 552SD, which by the way, seems to be a lot better here than in Socom 2. The F90 has gotten a lot better, the M14 seems to have lost some of its luster. I miss the good ol M3 shotty, but there's enough new stuff to keep you occupied.

Actually, the boneyard (Its kinda like a city dump with a warehouse correct?) s pretty small and i basically like a Frostfire.

By the way, anyone look back to Socom II's maps and realise just how SMALL they really are?

OK, so far I am loving the sniper rifles. One of my first games, I went 22-5 with 16 headshots. That was Killing Fields Convoy (My favorite map) The only gun I used was the SR-25 with surpressor 1, and a 12x scope.

These attachments are amazing, I love customizing my own gun. I think they did a great job on that.

So far the only thing im disappointed with is being killed 3 times in one round, like in Harvestor, I got ran over, and sniped by 2 people all at the same time, and it counted 3 deaths for me. There are minor things too, like when i got my score for the end of the game it said I had 4892 kills. I don't know, it could help me =).

Also a minor thing that will probably be fixed, is that there is major lag, when its a full 16v16 room, and everyone is shooting. This happened to me in Citadel, it was a full room, and I could'nt kill anyone because there was so much lag. However they are new servers and I'm sure it will just take time.

Basically it is a great game, and I love the huge maps, because there is so much room to snipe. Also the weeds give you alot more cover from all sides.

I finally got my game and guide last night around 8:30pm. I turned it on and was amazed at the graphics change and the whole format. (Well done Zipper!) I decided to take a crack at the first mission in Ensign. Of course, blew right through it. I was itching to try the online but there is so much negative stuff about it on these boards, (not being able to connect, mic not working....) that I was afraid of being dissapointed if I tried it but I couldnt help myself.

I thought it was great that I could use the same profile connection settings from S2 to connect. It quickly went through the DNAS, made my name and I was on....no problem. I clicked on the first room that was available and within seconds was playing S3. I checked the mic and it worked fine.

I played from about 9:00pm to 3:00am this morning. I managed an MVP a few boards in. It was so f'n hard to turn it off.

My only gripe at this point is that on some of the bigger maps, I spent the whole 8 rounds wandering trying to find some form of life besides myself. I didnt see one Terrorist to put a hole in. I did however manage to give one of my teammates a new *** hole. If censored.... a new poop dispenser. :P

For you guys having problems getting on, connect your PS2 directly to the modem. Mine happens to be a Motorolla Surfboard modem. No Problem.

Verdict: I love this game. The graphics, custom weapons, sound is incredible through a surround sound system.

Buy it!! Play it!! Live it!!

I like playing control or demolition on Socom 3. Control just goes so fast, and it needs teamwork. People actually talk to say where they are going to so that all these people don't go to the same place at once, and others go with them just to give them some backup.

Demolition is fun too, because it has a lot of action. People grab the , and then all of a sudden they are in a firefight. Whoever comes out of the fight with the satchel/bomb, people are running back to their base or to the other team's base, and they are getting shot at or chased pretty much all the way. Then if they die and drop the satchel/bomb, people either snipe the satchel/bomb's location, or there is a huge mob coming to try to get the satchel/bomb. Everytime I played demolition, there's always been more than 2 minutes left, which is good because if you die, you don't have to wait to the beginning of the round, and you actually get into firefights instead of running around the board in circles looking for someone. You have a place to go no matter if someone has the satchel/bomb or not, and thats why I like it, and recommend these two types of play for the faster paced games.

My favorite is actually Convoy medleys, on seals. I love this because even though you don't get any vehicles, you know exactly where the terrorists are going. My advice for Convoy is grap a silenced sniper rifle, and camp far away from a load zone and pop anyone that comes near. I love convoys!

Pros and Cons

Overall I would have to say I love Socom 3 !

Pros:
1. People you shoot actually die.
2. Not as much lag
3. Great maps and environments.

Cons:
1. Sometimes the mics/headsets don't work... sometimes you can speak and sometimes you can't (and I don't mean when someone else is speaking). Also, sometimes you will see that someone is speaking, but you cannot hear them.
2. Sometimes the gold (?) icon over the person speaking flashes around the screen for several seconds.
3. In respawn sometimes it takes up to 60 seconds for the respawn icon to appear.

Favs:
Seal gun = m4a1 silenced with 4x scope
Terr gun = AG94
