Can you play s3 on ps3 when it comes out?

dunno cuz the ps3 will have so much advanced technology it might not let it... who knows

You cant mix and match systems online. There may be dedicated servers for ps2 and 3, but i highly doubt that you will be able to play against someone with a ps2 if you're on the newer platform...

The PS3 has so much more processing power, and would be sending much much more information than the ps2 could handle, despite the fact that it's the same game being played.

You also have to think in the place of SONY. If you make them backwards compatable, and socom is the most popular game on playstation 2 (im not sure if it is...) then no one will be upgrading untill the price drops, which would be bad for SONY.

If lots of people start playing on PS3 servers (and can only play vs. other ps3 owners), then people will buy PS3's a lot faster than if they can play with their friends from their old PS2's.

Personally, what i think Zipper should have done is wait and make socom 3 the best launch game in history. People would flock to get it. I know i sure as hell would pay for the PS3 if it meant being able to play S3.

Then everybody wins. (Except for the people who cant afford the PS3 at launch, but chances are, sony doesnt give a flying **** about them... Sorry.)

Waiting for the PS3 for SocomIII? That is really too long. They can't put that big of a gap between games.

ok the ps3 will not be able to have anything to do with the ps2 whatsoever besides games. You'd have to spend another 100 dollars buying accersories and sony isnt making the ps3 as a gaming station anyways. so ps3 + socom 3 = not worth it. if your gonna get socom 3, u might as well play it on the station it was made for, ps2. and most likely u wont be able to play online with the ps3 because of the difference in technology.

i think that as long as you play on the NTSC ps3 with a NTSC Socom3 it should still work. just be a lot more lag. dont know, this online switchover didnt happen with the ps1.

and hey, can anyone tell me if the ps3 comes wit a built in hdd? because i would be so pissed off if i couldnt just pop in my ps2 hdd.

you most likely wont, and you'll need an HDTV if Sony cant figure out how to project there image on a normal tv before the release date.

and any extra accersories you have for your ps2 besides anything connected by a usb cable, wont be able to be used on a ps3.
