Custom Brush Tutorial
Purpose: To teach you how to make custom brushes using Photoshop.
Experience Needed: Basic Photoshop knowledge
The Tutorial:
1. Firstly you need to figure out what type of brush you want to make. I personally like doing my own type of brushes which include multilayer cracks and fissures with a small hint of grunge to it.
2. Next I’ll take my digital camera outside and find something that looks like what I’m going for. And snap a few pictures.
3. Open a new file around 150px X 200-500px depending what I’m going for. I upload the pictures in to Photoshop and scale them to the size I’m looking for. (Hint: Set the images to full size so you can get the best quality you can get out of them.)
4. Open any brush set you have, preferably one with very few brushes. I will use my own personal brush pack. Right click on each brush and select "delete brush", then hit "OK". You should have an empty brush pack right now. (Deleting brushes via this method
will not permanently delete them)
5. Now your ready to make it a brush. Soft edges do better on brushes so for this you will need to select the area you want for the brush with the marquee tool. Use the feather command to smooth the corners a little more. After that you may need to invert the selection. Just tap the delete key a couple times to smooth the edges.
6. Make sure you have the brush layer selected, and go to Edit>Define Brush. Now select the brush tool, and go to change your brush. You should have one brush there.
I'm sticking this thread because I'll be adding more custom brushes in here. If anyone else wants to add there custom brush in this thread feel free to do so, and I'll add them to the first post for ease of navagation.
