He's talking about the "council" in that post, Radio.
I don't know if you're including the GS members in your 18, Al, but we need all the GS to put this thing together. You do have a point, we need to pick a route to take, and I wouldn't mind putting in some money to get it published (let's talk prices, then I'll give...lol).

The second the word "money" enters the conversation, you have problems.
By making that central staff be the ones to "allocate funds", and by giving them more than anyone else, you're asking for trouble. Nobody that wants money will simply accept that they can do more work than the "leader" and not be rewarded.
Let's not turn this project against itself in that we discuss how money will be distributed, etc. I highly suggest we get work done first, then, and only then, when everything is finished begin deciding how things like that will be done. Not only does this give motivation, but it also prevents all the fighting and bickering here in the beginning.
I also don't like the concept of "group leaders", etc... I think everyone should have a fair say in this, with only one or two people "at the top" to resolve any disputes that can't be resolved among whomever the dispute may concern. I'd suggest AL be one of those two; the other could be anyone. But mind you, I'd suggest a sort of voting on the most responsible, etc...
Anyway, that's just my opinion on how the "official" structure should be. And I also think that if you're in this strictly to make some money, you should leave now. And lastly.... I forgot what my last point was, sorry. I may edit my post later...

DaKilla has a good point. We should put aside all talk of money until we've finished the guide.

I was addressing what seems to be the most pressing matter at this time. People are afraid that being left out means they will make no money, so why don't we just say... THERE IS NO MONEY TO BE GAINED HERE. Are you happy now? Nobody will get money for this, period.
Now, who still wants to be part of the project? That's the point.
You need to understand, when talking about cutting down the size of the group and talking about money even within the same thread, you're going to get problems. It's like firing someone at work, it's no easy business.
And yes, AL, I read all your posts in their entirety before I even posted. The reason I keep mentioning money is that when you lose people, they lose their chance to make money and get jealous of those who stayed. So why can't we make this thing a non-profit strategy guide, and perhaps if it works out well, make a version 2 (in the long run now, bear with me here) that could possibly move towards making money. You have to realize, the major problem we've encountered here is the fact that there was talk about money.
THERE IS NO MONEY TO BE MADE HERE!
Anyway, to the rest of your post. I'm not sure if you need a small amount of people or not... I mean, just because there isn't that much work doesn't mean you can't take the input of other people. I do agree that a core team should be established, but I also think this core team should probably be voted on in a system such as one where people are nominated. This will mean that the core team is the group of individuals most qualified to be on the core team... you get what I'm saying?
And mind you, I'm a third party here... I'm just overseeing the entire thing and trying to offer assistance. I don't plan on actually taking part in writing anything, or whatever.

You know, I did this because I hate the way other guides do their stuff. This was meant to be a change for one of the greatest games of the year. We shouldn't argue over something like money. It isn't as trivial as other problems, agreed. However, money tends to bring corruption and arrogance to the table. Let us just create an awsome and rediculously sexy guide..one for the guiness books as they say. Money is a secondary motivator and should always be seen as such. The first is the advancement of the socom community. Lets stay sexy and keep to the plan.
On a second note not related to the monetary side of this whole deal, I do think we have a huge staff. This many isn't needed. I am confident you cannot do the online section alone Al. I know you got good strategies and all, but getting 12 or 15 huge new maps down with multiple strategies for every time of player is something that cannot be done playing 24 hour days for a months straight. We want to try and get this done. We can trim a few people from certain areas in my opinion, but some spots require more than one person. Except mine!

Just as a note for everyone, AL and I are on the same page with this entire deal. Despite some contradictory posts, we are both of the same opinion...
Just letting you know so you don't think something's wrong between us. My posts, as with AL's, were directed at anyone they may concern.

i dont think anyone is in it for the money. but getting it published would be amazing. It would be first time something like this would be on store shelves. This would be something new...maybe go as far as "innovative?"

I don't think wasting our time getting it published is a good idea. Me, Sypher, and DK were talking aboot it in XChat today, guys, it won't happen, get it through your head.
To even get it noticed out in the market, say get it into ebgames, wouldn't we have to pay for that too, then actually wait for people to buy it. We would not make anywhere near enough for veins to make a difference, and pay all the staff, come on, let's be real. It would be hard to start with just getting it noticed.
I still think we should go with downloadable, looks better, more opportunities for graphics, and we can keep our entire staff.

We could use a self-publishing service, which prints the a copy of a book on demand. We can also sell it on e-bay/amazon/etc. through the service

You guys don't need me at all, so I will just bow out gracefully. I don't really know how much time I could devote to it, but I just wanted to help out because I think it is a good cause. I know DK said that there is no money to be made, but if any of you are still thinking about it, a word of advice: Be careful when entering any kind of business arangement with friends. You probably won't be friends afterwards.
