yes you can hear in game sounds but you would miss out on what the whole "Draw" of socom is without the mic. you meet some really cool people and can bullshyt during the most boring part of the game (when your dead) and it helps soo sooo much with team communication, and with a mic youd be allowed to lay mines, etc and call out enemies or where your at before you die.

to me a mic is a must if you are gonna really play socom.

you can play online just fine without it but your experience isnt at its fullest. it is a lot more fun with a mic just as lufeng said above. you meet people, talk about some interesting stuff when you are waiting for your last 3 guys to camp a draw against 1 enemy :P you dont get to hear ANYTHING at all.

i find a game of SOCOM the most fun when the WHOLE team is into nothing but team communication while alive. it just feels so real when you find rooms such as these...

The mic is absolutely the best thing about Socom online. Otherwise you might as well just play one player and have cool missions and stuff. The mic is what makes the difference and what makes it such a good game.

If you play with halfway intelligent people then yeah use the mic. I just got sick of 8 year old whiney... and people who swear for hours when they die. The 2% of times when people actually say tactics and stuff. Yeah I miss out on them but it doesn't mean I still don't own. I dont' even play with sound anymore. I just listen to music or watch tv. I could probably be better if I played with sound but meh. I don't care its just a game. I just follow the little red arrows and that's good enough for me now.

Yu'p, the mic's a big part of the fun. Realistically, you probably don't miss out on much major team strategy during game play, because so often it's "everybody do your own thing" anyway. If you do play without it though, I hope you're not planting mines, or planting the bomb without back up (and losing a round). I've seen people voted for less. I'm pretty laid back, but even I'd get cheesed if you killed me a couple times because you can't call out your mines.

There are a lot of times where a team will be losing and when you join the game and end up on their team, they are silent. When people don't work together, it's so obvious they are not going to do good (most of the time at least) Plus, when no one talks, its stupid. It's even worse when you go "Hey did anyone set mines here at the stairs by blah blah" and no one answers because they aren't using team work and just running around thinking they could take everyone out. Guarantee most of the time, they will lose to a team that DOES use communication.

I love when 2 or 3 people call their mines in the beginning, and then throughout the game, people are going "how does it look on the left?" or "Any anyone see anything" and its even better when you are dead and people are like "Dude, that bi@tch is lagging!" lol. Trust me, its worth the 30 dollars for the mic. It was for me, and still is.

When ever I don't play without a mic I wish I had one thats why I got one :D But on this game I don't believe it a necesity to have a mic you can still play you don't need to cordinate with your teammates its not like there is only 2 people on a side. I think the mic is a great tool and luxurary to have. I don't like it when people say "this kid dosn't have a mic lets vote him" I hate that because I know what it is like not to have a mic and its not fair to them to be voted off just because they don't have a mic. How would you feel if someone voted you off just because you didn't have a mic?
