Sorry man, it doesnt work that way. To be able to use another modem in your house you will have to have the cable company run another line to your house, then you will have to run more coax to each room for the new line (so basically you would have to double all the wiring coming to and from your house). In addition to all of this you would pay another monthly fee service fee of approx $45.

It is much cheaper and much better to wire each room in your house with a ethernet connection. It will help resale value of your house and also allow you to get online from any room in your house. I just helped a buddy wire his whole house up and it cost him a little over $100 for all the wire and another $40 for the router. I would never suggest a wireless connection, it may be convenient but it is in no way secure.

So to sum everything back up. A router is what you want to buy to accomplish this. A second modem is not feasible for most and really not even practical.

thanks, that answered my question. i first thought it wasnt possible to have two modems running at once on seperate lines. the only reason i thought it would be possible is because i have unhooked my modem and moved it to the cable line going into the big screen in a different room.

so, i know it is possible to move it to a different cable line but i now know it isnt possible to have two modems running at the same time on two different lines
