    Biggest Nerd Ever

This WoW player is nuts... just look at his setup.

Gamer juggles over 30 Warcraft characters - Video Game Feature - Yahoo! Video Games

Think you play too much World of Warcraft?

    Compared to "Prepared," you don't.

In a case of game addiction gone officially bananas, gaming blog Joystiq reports on what is surely the biggest Warcraft fan of them all. Known only under the moniker "Prepared," the gamer plays a stunning 36 World of Warcraft accounts on 11 different computers...simultaneously.

Stemming from a desire to manage raids -- large-scale gameplay sessions that typically require the teamwork of multiple players -- all by himself, the die-hard gamer seems undaunted by both the financial and lifestyle commitments to such a geeky endeavor.

"It costs me exactly $5711 in subscription costs per year with 36 accounts on the 6 month pay schedule," he writes. "Not bad considering I'm looking at it like it's a hobby and there are more expensive hobbies out there than World of Warcraft."

Like yachting, perhaps. And despite the downturn in the economy, Prepared can't wait to get his hands on the upcoming Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King.

"I plan to be at the store when it opens and will purchase 36 copies of it. With tax, it should be about $1500 for all of them."

Word of Prepared's over-the-top addiction comes on the heels of the annual Blizzcon Convention, a fan-oriented celebration of the games created by Warcraft publisher Blizzard.
    Here's his setup:

I saw this a few days ago on Kotaku and I instantly thought of my 2 friends. They don't have setups like that, but when they aren't at college they are at home playing WoW.

Today, one of them called someone to pick him up and take him home in time for the servers coming back online after a huge patch. Leaving college midway through the day just because WoW got patched... needs a life.

Sadly, these people are my friends, but I remind them of their homosexuality every single day.

He probably has rich parents that are as fat as he is.

Generally hobbies don't require you to sit around 27 hours a day not accomplishing anything.

I'm wondering the total dollar amount all of that "equipment" came to. What a waste, considering there are so many other things and people that could disparately use that money.

Kotaku said the entire setup cost him around $30k, obviously excluding ongoing costs such as utility/Internet payments.

I'm sorry, but it bugs me so much when people say things like this. There are a lot of things wrong with having a rig like that, but the fact that he's not giving all the money he spent on it to third world countries isn't one of them. Nobody should be made to feel guilty for spending on luxuries. Hell, this is a video game forum. It's entirely devoted to luxuries. If we all gave however much we spent on all our games, PCs and consoles to charity, the world might be a better place, but am I supposed to feel guilty for owning that stuff? And is it reasonable to expect people to do that? You're posting from a PC right now, for example, and this being the forum that it is, I assume you own a console or five - why didn't you donate the money you spent on those things to charity instead?

OK, so this guy's a geek. But it's a very pot-and-kettle statement given the nature of the forum. He could certainly do with calming the flip down, we can all agree on that. But at the end of it all, if that's what he wants to do with his time, that's up to him; he's not hurting anyone. But to feel guilty about what he does because of all the other crap in the world? Hell no. If he was a school, or a hospital, or Oxfam or something, I could understand and would agree with you, but as it stands he's just a guy, and he can spend his money however he likes.
