Well at the minute, I am leaning towards going to University. The reason for this is simply because my local area is cutting back on their Police force and have frozen recruitment. If I had my way, I would be applying.

I wanted to join British Transport Police which would have meant I could travel around England and possibly move out of this hellish city, but it's a fairly small Police "unit" and I know jobs are few/far between.

The only available jobs within my local Police are stuff like being a Personal Assistant, sewing up Police uniforms, etc. A full driving license is also required which I never even though about. That would take me about 6 months and a lot of money.

Well these days, a college education means **** all here. It is simply seen as a stepping stone between normal school and University. There are job opportunities with just a college education, but nothing like the ones I would have with Uni behind me which is why my decision is so hard. I am finishing out college no matter what my choice, it's just after college I am thinking about.

Looks like a life in an office chair for me.

Lots of good advice here, be grateful for it.

My input:
Making a living off of something you enjoy is good in theory, but when something you enjoy doing becomes work, it's not so much fun.

Personally, I'm an artist. I'm great with illustration and design, and have done them both commercially. I was very surprised when I finally found the things I once loved doing became the things I dreaded doing the most.

I've had a good bit of luck in falling into my current occupation, which is a hodge-podge of web-design, network admin, and computer programming. It pays very well, and it's challenging. I can't say I enjoy it 100% of the time, but the income allows me to pursue my interests outside of work, so I'm happy with that.

My advice: Finish school, get fit, then go for law enforcement if that's still what you want to do.

Boba, that was the best piece of writing that I have read in a very long time. I've asked professionals at giving career advise, and not one of the ignorant bastards gave anything like what you just wrote. The funny part? You helped me and I didn't know I needed it.

We NEED a kudos button on this website for posts.

I think that's something completely different. Art is a form of self-expression and creativity, and by having a client give you very limited criteria on how they want something to look, the art loses its personal appeal. When you're talking about something like law enforcement, however, it's something that by definition is done to serve the public good. I don't think you can compare the two.
