The word A lot

I made a mistake on the title of the thread....

I always see people spelling the word A lot as Alot... I'm kind of confused here since I was always taught to spell it like A lot as in two words. Is there really a right way to spell this word? I would think A lot would be the right way. If you spelled it like alot wouldn't that be close to the word allot which means something totally different.. Sorry If this is dumb kind of always wanted to know this

The correct spelling is a lot... It is a common misconception to spell it as alot but it is a lot.

"A lot" is TWO words, not one.

There is no such word as "alot." Regardless of what people tell you, or what you see, it is supposed to be spelled "a lot."

"There is a lot" = "There is one lot." It's pretty basic that the word 'lot' is standalone. No need to attach the 'a'; it screws up the whole thing. Think about it. =P

a lot could mean a large quantity of things, and in this usage, "a lot" means "a large quantity of things," or , "in large quantity."

"a" and "lot" together is just what it is.

a pound
a lot

"a" and "lot" are both a word so you can use them next to eachother.
