They wouldn't have a choice. Without it, they'd be living on what? Oh that's right, their country is under water now.

That has got to be the dumbest thing i've ever heard of.

I really don't think its such a good idea, i mean come on, water is dangerous, and heck i don't think someone wants to live in a city thats freaking floating on it, what happens if a huge tsunami hits, i can just imagine that city surfing a wave!

Orly?

Ever heard of Hawaii? Jamaica? Cuba? The Bahamas? And every other island on the planet? They aren't floating, but it's the closest natural thing to this... and they seem to be doing just fine.

diffrence between this and those islands are that the floating city has many windows underwater, so i can see alot of people getting sea sick, another is a tsunami (If one happened) will pretty much carry the city from where it is.

Hurricanes would wreck it, looking at what its made up it wouldn't be able to hold up to a huge hurricane. The point is it doesn't look safe at all, never trust these crazy ideas.

Like the city pyramid thing in japan, it looks cool but at the same time it doesn't look so safe, even though it would help prevent a tsunami from hitting tokyo, it just isn't a good idea.

Making these types of things requires technology and building techniques that aren't even available right now, we would need to be much more advanced to even attempt something like that.

Umm, no offense, but...

They wouldn't build a ****ing city with 50,000 people in it if it wasn't safe.

I ain't so sure Steve, this is a guy who wants "mountains... to give a change of scenery"... when you are fleeing to the high seas, one of the last things you will care about is a good view... the very last thing you want, the ultimate in idiocy, are three massive sails on your home which will **** you royally when the winds pick up.

If we were to try and live at sea the cities would be big, ugly and gray things with no windows and nuclear reactors rather than pretty blue wind turbines. You can't waste acres of space on renewable crap when we've had nuclear powered ships for decades, especially when you have to grow food on limited space.. Gray is just the standard colour for stuff like that, although I would prefer to paint it brown because tens of thousands of people living on a postage stamp... its quite squalid.

That is pretty badass. I only have a couple concerns with this project. Number one, it will be one of the most expensive endeavors we will have seen in our lifetime. If it only houses 50,000 people for the millions of displaced residents, it might become a very expensive transition for people who have lost their homes. The only ones who would be able to afford the city would be the rich, who could simply move to another city and start anew without any issues. That is unless it becomes a federally funded project, which by the looks of it seems to not be the case. It appears to be a more international, independantly owned facility.

Ecologically speaking, though, it seems like a great idea. An idea for the future might be to drastically change our lifestyles on our current lands than to make a city which floats. This seems like the perfect excuse to keep ****ing up our environment.

In the end, I'd live there. Seems like it would be pretty tranquil.
