Well that just made me feel like a complete **** seeing as how I work with plastic bags every single day.

Putting smaller packages and envelopes into plastic bags for 4-5 hours Monday through Friday in order to fit more packages into one truck.

When I go to the store I always ask for paper instead of plastic. Whenever I'm in the Gulf of Mexico, you actually do see plastic bags all the time floating around. I always grab them or whatever is in the water that shouldn't be.

Wow, that is a bit shocking if you really think about it. I knew that plastic caused damage to the environment, but I didn't expect the magnitude that the slide show claimed. It's sad to see yet another thing we consider a convenience become such a hazard to the natural world.

I thought the same before watching that. I always heard all of this "we shouldnt use plastic bags" crap...but didnt really know why or the true significance.

I may start using paper bags from now on. Illegal dumping in our oceans is a big problem...alot more then plastic bags getting dumped in there....sad sad stuff.

Like George Carlin says, we are here for the sole purpose of inventing plastic and styrofoam. Since we've already given the earth a fair share of this stuff, she can now end our reign of experimentation.

Next species please....

Oh and here's the link........ :) **MUST WATCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!**

Okay I gotta say, requesting paper over plastic in a super market is just trading one evil for another.

Sure, paper is bio-degradable but it takes a LOT more resources and energy to make a paper bag vs. a plastic bag. At the end of the day when you consider that, both are bad.

The problem isn't within the bag itself, it's that not enough people recycle it. If just half of the people who use plastic bags would take them to the proper place to be recycled, there were be WAY less negative effects from plastic.

Unfortunately that would take effort.
