Nah, Thank God! That would have made it worse.

I plan on it. It is causing me anxiety to where I couldn't focus in none of my classes today. I just kept going back to each moment over and over again, getting more angry every minute to the point where I had to see a councilor for the remainder of the day.

He was in my 3rd period last year. That's why I thought he was going to kill me, because he might've remembered me.
I kept thinking to myself today, "If I had a gun".

You're little encounter makes me think about getting an airsoft gun and take the orange thing off (even though it's illegal), just in case I need to show it off.

Yeah, it's illegal, but it's sometimes not an option to keep it off. I was once encountered by a break-in, and he tried to take some money and such. I got my bat, and ran out on my yard to see where he went. Even if he did come back, I would of smacked the **** out of him, even though it's illegal to do it off property for no reason (Even though we all know there IS a reason)

No, it's not illegal. It's your yard, that's your property, you have all the right to defend yourself in your yard.

Correct. That would fall under Defense of Property, but there is a way that you could use too much force in that situation.
Was it you Pat that was chased around in a forest or something last year? I thought I remembered someone talking about that in a thread. All in all, it's good to see you alive and well after something like this. Like Nun said, be sure to testify in court, it'll help a load.

Wrong, sir. You can only defend yourself if your life is being threatened. The nature of the threat has to be imminent, unlawful deadly force. Therefore, in the situation where someone has robbed you and is on their way out the door (retreating with ALL your prized possessions) it is unfortunately illegal to bust caps in his *** because he is leaving and at that very moment you no longer are in immediate danger of your life.
And when you are in a proper situation with the right to defend yourself, you may only use the exact amount of "defense" as necessary to protect yourself (if the aggressor is not using deadly force, you may not either).
Only a very few jurisdictions have a exception to this rule where it it legal to protect your dwelling under any circumstances... so the unfortunate rule of thumb as the laws are today is: when in doubt, run and hide*.
*I personally would drag the mother****er back into my house and put them in a threatening position after I put a few rounds in them even if they were escaping... but note that none of this is legal advice of any sort. Just my personal opinion. I don't condone any sort of "toughguy" ******** but it's surprising that in many situations the victim's natural reaction is deemed illegal -- so I think everyone should be aware of the legality of their actions in case a situation like this does arise.

It really does sound like you and your family need to get out of Fayetteville. Or at least move out to in the country a little bit. I can understand money issues, but If I were you I'd be working to get out of the house and into some were completely different.
The funny thing is crime is everywhere and you really can't out run it. But I guess we all can try.

But if the criminal is making away with a victim's items, can't you use a necessary amount of force to get them back? I guess that's how I've always understood that, I'm probably wrong though seeing as you're the law student and I'm going into law, but still in high school.
