I never anwser my door without my Glock 19. I have it pointed at them behind the door the whole time. They never know I have it. Also if you do open the door remember to have some shoes on (I know that might not be possible) and keep your foot on the back of the door like a door jam. It will slow them down if they force there way into your house and keep them from knocking you out if they kick it open in your face. By the way I don't live in a bad town. It only takes one time before something bad can happen.

I never open my front door without seeing who it is first. No matter on what angle you approach the house, lights come on so it's easy to see who it is.

When I do open the door, I stand with most of my body behind the door with just my head poking around it. That way, I have most of my weight there to slam it on their face if I need to.

Sounds like you did the right thing in your situation though, Pat. I have absolutely no idea what I would do if anyone came in my house, but I will try my best to stop that happening in the first place.

My advice? Get a decent sized dog. My dog is much louder than you would think for her size and anyone who comes to the door is a bit weary until they see it's just a giant rat. (They hesitate = you can react)

Pat, if you wrote down your serial numbers for all of your stuff, it'd be easy to track should anyone ever try and sell it at a pawn shop.

Shouldn't your insurance cover it all anyway?

We have a thing here called "Buildings & Content" insurance. Meaning the house and anything valuable inside is covered.

One of my teachers bought a 360 from a friend of mine a few months ago. His house then got robbed and they took the 360. On the insurance, he got a brand new 360 rather than the preowned one he got from my friend. Obviously his premium will have gone up.

Christ, that's a rough night. At least you did the right thing and the *******s are getting locked up, though hopefully for much longer than 5 years.

It really depends on how the judge charges them. They can be charged concurrently or consecutively. If I'm not mistaken, concurrently means they only serve the longest sentence and consecutively means they serve each sentence separately.

Here is what I found out on North Carolina laws in terms of jail time...

Larceny: 60 Days
Second Degree Kidnapping: 2-3 years (So probably 3-5 for First Degree)
Assault with a deadly weapon: Class E felony, no more than 3 years
Conspiracy of kidnapping: Probably just a couple months
Drug Charges: With as much as they found, probably 1-3 years

With the over crowding in prisons in this state, they will be out in a few months. Seems like the ones that need to be there get out before the ones that have done silly victimless crimes.

Let's not forget that the charges will be more severe depending on their past records. I'm willing to bet that they weren't on the way to church after their botched home invasion.
And If were you Biz..I would be showing up at there trial claiming severe mental stress and anxiety which would also way somewhat upon their sentence. Then after they get dealt their punishment flash them and their family a nice smile on the way out.

If they had done this to you a few months ago, they would have been on trial for [crime] on a minor which is usually a little more serious.

Also, you say one of them is familiar to you. How so?

You should've grabbed your stick and beaten them to death.
