Carpet or laminate?

Okay, so this is completely random. But I'll be redocorating my room pretty soon. Walls, furniture flooring etc etc etc. And I'm not decided on whether to have carpet or wood flooring. Hmmmmm, any ideas?

I have carpet in my room and my sister has wood. I hate wood. I think it's better cause when you wake up and walk on it, its not freezing. But it depends... are you messy and spill drinks all the time? I never drink in my room so I don't worry about spilling any thing on my carpet. I think carpet is also easier to clean IMO.

Yeah I know what you mean. Carpet is warmer, more cosy. I'll probably be be eating and drinking in there so spills might be an issue. Wood would be easy just to wipe up. I cant decide........

My house is all laminate, so my room has extreme temps ( colder than the rest of the house in the winter, hotter than the rest of the house in the summer ) because its over the garage, but thats just my room. Normally in the living room it doesn't get to cold, so if yours does you can get a rug like us. Besides its fun to watch the cats slide around when they have their claws out.

I lived at my Uncle's house for a few months when I got back to England and his entire house is laminate, even the stairs.

The house creeks like mad, you can move without making a noise.

I always wanted laminate in my room but if you are upstairs just remember the disadvantages: An office chair with wheels may scratch the laminate, not to mention make everyone downstairs think the ceiling is coming down. It is slippy so socks are a no-no when it has been cleaned... I speak from personal experience of running for the phone and ending up on my arse. Laminate attracts dust, hair, etc so it needs to be cleaned regularly.

My Uncle has 3 cats so the laminate looked like a sea of cat hair even after a few hours after cleaning it. They are going to put carpet back down everywhere now.

Laminate looks a lot better, but carpet is more practical for a bedroom.

I'm tile floors all the way. I had all wood floors in my Master Bedroom and my bathroom sprung a leak and got under the floors. That was a horrible feeling.
I won't do carpet because I'll destroy it and on occasion I'm not completely housebroken

I went with tile with a wood grain look. Evryone says it looks like the real thing.

We had tiled floors in our last house in Florida. They were granite so you didn't slip and break your neck after swimming in the pool. They were still smooth enough to walk around in bear feet.

Carpet is better for the UK because of the warmth and basic insulation they provide. If you have laminate flooring here (whole house) and expect to walk round bare foot, you might want to think about under floor heating.

I think carpet will be the way I go. Although I'd love to watch the cats skid around like their on ice, I dont want face shaped dents in the floor everytime I wake up and fall over. Plus with the weather being mostly crap over here I'd rather come home to a warm room. I imagine its going to be a pain in the arse buying and fitting it though....

Well my parents had a new carpet just after we moved in our house here.

We went to the carpet shop (I forget the name, it will come to me) to pick the carpet on Sunday and they came the next day and fitted it in about half an hour.

It all cost about 120quid I think. You have to rip the old carpet up yourself but I think they take it with them. Just keep the grippers down.

Quid is a slang term for Pounds (GBP). Don't know where it comes from but there you go.

Don't know if the price is high, not everyday I got out and compare carpet prices, maybe I should.
