The Almighty Chicken Wing

I am a simple man.

I like my beer cold, sometimes of Canadian origin. I enjoy NFL Football, even though my Lions haven't done much lately (We won it all back in '57!). I don't have much a preference in women. Basically, a hole is a hole. A mouth is mouth. Snizz has no face after a case of Natural Light.

There is one thing that I am very particular about... that is my wings.

I love them fried, baked, grilled, out of a microwave, leftover... pretty much anyway you can have them, I love them. Seriously.. I love them. I have dreams about them sometimes, and I really do want to open up a bar someday just to sell my own wings.

My favorite type of chicken wing is the traditional Buffalo Wing. The crispness of the skin after being fried in clean vegetable oil for 12 minutes is better than anything else I have eaten. The spicyness of the cayenne pepper hot sauce, and the smoothness of the butter after being tossed in sauce is like a party in my mouth... and everyone's invited.

There is no other way to have a traditional Buffalo Wing that to have it as followed:

If we are to be on the same page, I need to fist stress that there should NEVER be a batter on a traditional Buffalo Wing. That is not allowed. If I have a party, and you say, "Dude, I'll bring some Buffalo Wings!", and you show up with some battered wings tossed in sauce... I will punch you in your ****in' throat. Don't make the mistake of calling these types of wings Buffalo Wings. You call them either Hot Wings, or Breaded Wings. They are close in awesomess, but they ARE NOT THE SAME THING!

You deep fry them in either peanut oil or a type of vegetable oil. The oil must be clean, never brown for optimal taste. The chicken wings shouldn't be frozen before frying. By dropping them into the fryer frozen, you are adding water to the oil. You never want that, because it ruins the oil faster. The wings should be patted dry before going into the oil. Fry them until golden brown. Overcooked is alright, they just need to have a bit more sauce than usual.

The sauce should consist of the following:
  1. Cayenne Pepper Hot Sauce
  2. Butter
You can use margerine if there is no butter available. It is rumored that the original buffalo wing sauce was created with margerine. My opinion, butter is better.

You can add other flavors to your buffalo sauce. I like to add minced garlic and some garlic powder to create a garlic sauce. Let it be known that you are not allowed to call this sauce a traditional "buffalo sauce" because it isn't actually traditional. For this example, you would call it a Spicy Garlic Sauce.

Now, after the wings are done, you must immediately add them to the sauce. Here is the proper way to do so:

Grab a large salad bowl. Stainless steel or wood is excellent. Plastic is allowed, but not encouraged. Place sauce in bowl first, wings second.

Now...

TOSS!

I'm creaming myself just thinking about doing that.

You plate them and enjoy with bleu cheese, or ranch. Both are acceptable in my book. The traditional way is with bleu cheese, but a lot of people are giant pussies and won't eat it that way, so I've had to accomodate when I have wing cookouts.

Yeah, I really love wings. While the Buffalo Wing style is my favorite, I do enjoy pretty much every other style of wings. Breaded and tossed come in second place, while grilled is third. I actually really enjoy making my own chipotle grilled chicken wings. They are the **** are my wing cookouts.

Like I said before, I really do want to open up a bar just to sell wings. I take great pride in my wing and wing sauces.

So, how much do you people like wings? What's your favorite style? Breaded, Grilled, Baked, Fried? How often do you eat them? I try to make some variation of wings at least once a week. What's your favorite sauce? Do you have your own recipe? Let us wing lovers come together and rejoice for the almighty chicken wing!

P.S.
Don't even think about calling boneless wings... wings. They're not wings dammit!

Interesting thread. I don't eat chicken wings too often, but when I do, it can be any type of wing. Unless it's poorly made, I'll eat it.

I love wings. Buffalo, hot, plain, BBQ, anything! My brother makes the best (100x better than my dad) but yet I've had many good wing at local steakhouses.

And yes boneless wings and NOT wings. They're for wing lover wanna-bes!

I'm like easton. I love them any way.

However, I do love boneless wings too. They're not wings. Just chicken bits. I like them because there's less of a mess afterwards.

I do wings all the time !
I have the privilidge of having the best Hooters Location by me right on the Gulf on Mexico. It's right on the water where you can pull up in your boat get a Pitcher of Beer a and Hundred Hot Wings. Every Saturday after Band Practice the band meets up at this Hooetrs which is becoming a likable tradition. Hooetrs also has the best Buffalo Shrimp...hands down.

When I do them at home I get loads of drummettes and season them up with Outback Steakhouse Poultry Seasonig ( I still have my hookups ). Then I give those babies a nice char on my Big Green Egg which is part grill / part smoker. Then I toss them in some "Crystal Hot Wing Sauce" and finish them off in the oven then take them out and and sauce & toss them again. Fall of the bone goodness. As Far as Blue Cheese...I buy a jar of the chunkiest they got at the store then I buy a whole extra wheel of Blue Cheese and add it to the extra chucky blue cheese.

Wings are serious business to me.

Ahhh... wings. I love them with a passion. I like them in every possible way that they can come(except bbq); hottest of the hot, mild, salsa, teriyaki, lemon - lime, grilled, baked, fried, hell if they came in Mariah Carey poop flavor Id probably even eat those.

I have my own special kind that I make, which I listed above(lemon - lime). I swear this to God, Buddha, Allah, and every other higher power that they are the best wings you can find anywhere in the US and A.

Like Nun said, wings are serious business. Every Superbowl party, every family gathering and damn near every regular day of the year, I eat some type of wing.

BBQ wings are a total slap in the face to the wing world. I don't understand how someone can put that foul tasting excuse for "sauce" on a wing. I just don't get it.

Wings and fries combo is my favorite. Give me that and a 12 pack on Super Bowl Sunday and Im a happy man. This past SBS I made a batch of about 100 and downed maybe around 35-40 myself.

I like mine dipped in ranch, **** blue cheese. I really love a combo of ranch and hot sauce mixed together. Mmm

Wings. I love them

This Irish pub by me makes some of the best damned wings I've ever had. Part of the draw is that they put bits of pineapple in the blue cheese. Now, I know that sounds disgusting, and I'd agree with you if I'd never tasted it, but it's so ****ing delicious.

I have had some of the best Chicken Wings at Irish Pubs especially when I go to Portland.

Pineapple in the Blue Cheese isn't disgusting at all. Lots of peeps eat Pineapple with cottage cheese, which is a major essential ingredient when making Blue Cheese dressing.

Chicken sucks arse. I think eggs are alright, although I'm not even sure how that happened since its the poo the hens produce that makes me so pissed off. It is the worst substance on earth, bar none, and to eat that meat is loony.

Beef rules.

I like most meat (duck especially) but I just hate having to strip it off the bone.

Munching on the bones and muscles of a chicken doesn't appeal to me for some reason. I prefer boneless meat, preferably in a very spicy curry or chili.

If you like meat on the bone and curries, try a Jamaican curry. They traditionally don't strip the meat off the bone, just throw it all in there. Tastes nice once you get over having a leg bone stuck in your throat.

The best wings I have ever had came from some independent wing house on US192 in Florida. It was literally right next to a Hooters so it eventually shut down due to competition. The wings tasted great, but I think I got minor food poisoning from them.
