Ridiculous

Well, I'm just posting some things that are ridiculous. This edition: Cold Medicine! If you post something that is ridiculous, it would be awesome if it had a title or you identified what it is in the beginning of your post.

Yesterday, I went up to the store to buy some groceries (ooooh, amazering). One of the items on my list was Nyquil. Well, it turns out that if you aren't at least 19 years old, you can't buy it, not even the generic stuff. So, I said to myself "what the f**k!?". What makes it even more messed up is that since I was about, oh, 16, I've gone up to the exact same store and picked up my mom's pain killers. Now, what's more dangerous, 400 pills of a powerful narcotic or a bottle of Nyquil?

If you are a registered alcoholic (or you've gotten too many DUI's or DWI's, don't remember how it goes) you get a special ID. Well, if you have this ID, you can't buy anything with alcohol in it. ANYTHING!!! So, if you have a cold and want some Nyquil, you have to have a friend get it for you. If you want to fight gingevitis(sp?) with Listerene, you have to have a friend get it for you. If you need to disinfect a cut on your balls, you have to have a friend get it for you. Why? Because these products have alcohol in them, and since you have a special ID, you can't get anything with alcohol in it. (this could be untrue in your state)

Apparently, there is a set amount of cold medicine you can buy each month. So, if you are really sick and drink a lot of it, or you go out for your various friends who are all sick in the same month and get some, you can get put on a little list that says "Hey, this guy has bought too much cold medicine", and the stores are supposed to not sell it to you anymore. Now, this sort of makes sense with these idiots that are getting addicted to it, but come on. You should be able to tell if someone is getting it because they are someone close to them is sick or if they are getting it so they can have some fun.

We've got this happening in the UK as a few muppets in the states have been letting their kids chug the stuff.

Under twos cough and cold medicine overdose danger

Basically their putting cold and flu medicines under the counter and advising not to let under 2's take them.

Do you guys get Calpol? God that stuff tastes good!!

REDICULOUS: I'm 20, I can legally marry, buy porn, alchohol etc etc. I walk into the shop this morning and I get I.D'd for Rizla?!? Christ, it's paper!

I don't think the US get Calpol, they didn't have it while I lived there at least. Calpol does taste nice, but Junior Disprol is quite easily the worst tasting medication ever created. What's that pink or yellow stuff we used to get as kids in England? Tasted like sugary milkshake.

I don't think it's bad that they restrict the sale of certain medication to certain age groups. I am totally against a lot of restrictions in life, but medication is not one of them. You can quite easily cause a lot of damage to your system if you are irresponsible with some medication, the shop you buy it at will be the first to get targeted in any OD case raised.

One thing I find ridiculous is the US legal age to buy alcohol. You can drive, die for your country, legally consent to sex, get married, own a gun, but not drink alcohol. They may have valid reasoning behind it, but its stupid nevertheless. I also find the huge influence American culture has on British people a bit OTT also. I am not saying it's all bad, but I thought I would stop getting called "dude" when I moved back to England... I was wrong.

PS: Nice thread.

They don't have any valid reasons behind it, most US car related accidents linked to drunk driving are kids well under the age of 21.

For your case of being called "dude" it's better than fuc*ing "dog" and "dawg" however you want to spell it. Personally I think calling someone "dog" is offensive. A dog is something I own, feed, walk, and clean up sh*t after, not one of my friends.

Cough medicine is obnoxious. They've got those self-checkouts at the grocery store I go to, and I was using one and I didn't think about the whole cough syrup thing. I was buying a bunch of stuff, and once I got to the end it said "Please wait, employee approval needed". So I got some tool that checked my license, but she couldn't count from 1989 to 2008, and she thought I was under 18.

So I had to stand there and wait for this idiot to go over to the pharmacy and ask someone how old I am. Personally, I don't get it. How can you hire someone that can't count?

That's another thing that really is ridiculous, carding people. For anything, it's amazing how many people can't count.

How can they tell if you have bought a lot of legal medicines? Do they take some sort of card number assigned to you, or is it all automated? It sounds a bit petty. The google ads at the top of this page are advertising rehab centres, and we are only talking about cough medicine. Lovely.

One of the little things in life that I hate is the way we copy each other in small ways. When you are sitting still for a long time and change position, the person beside you is likely to mirror you within seconds. Someone spits out on a run, two seconds later a deluge follows as every man decides to clear his airways without actually thinking about it. And it only gets worse when widespread illness sets in... sneezing, coughing, sniffing... you can go several minutes without any sound of sickness, then suddenly everyone sounds like they are about to pop their clogs. It is damned annoying.

I hate how people talking about dieing for a country, whenever killing is the sticking point for most chaps.

Nobody can tell if you buy a lot of legal medicine, it's just like purchasing anthing else. Only thing is, they ask for ID, like when you buy a pack of cigarettes.

In most shops here, you can only buy a maximum of 2 of a medication at one time. Like you can only buy 2 packs of pain killers, etc.

I don't know what it applies to, but I know it's most things.

Well cough medications are because of the codeine in them. Anything with Codeine in it is a part of the Controlled Substance Act. Over the counter cough medicines are schedule 5, but higher doses can be schedule 2 or 3. It's a fairly serious drug when abused.

that we can go off to war and die for our country in America, but cannot buy alchohol at the age of 18, also that marijuana is illegal but thats never gonna change so I won't bother going on a rant.
