At 13 you're options are pretty limited. I would suggest getting the phone number of an Army recruiter, tell him you're interested in the Army but only 13. See if there is anything that can be done.

When you're 17, you can talk to the National Guard. I believe my recruiter said you can attend pre-basic as much as you want without actually being in the Guard.

I was part of the USNSCC since I was like 13. I quit within the last year because of some personal issues. It is like what you're talking about, except a navy form of it. It stands for US Naval Sea Cadet Corps. I know the Marines also have their own version of this. I'm not sure if the Army has any type of program for those under 18, but I know that if you're a Boy Scout and make Eagle Scout you will get some advantages when (if) you enlist in the Army. Talk to a recruiter to get info, just don't believe any stories they tell you.

Whenever you enter high school (if you haven't already), see if your school has an ROTC program and enroll in it. It gives you a small taste of what peace time is like in the military sort of. Complete three years of that and you enter the army as an E-3 I believe. I took two years of it but quit this year because I was being worn out. Good luck man.

Your best bet is going to your local Army Recruiting Office. I'm not 100% positive that EVERY office has this, though they should, but there's a thing called Future Soldier Training (FTS) that is done once a week. It consists of running, along with various other workouts (push-ups, things of that nature). You'll also learn how to patrol roads and trails, as well as reading maps and learning hand signals, things similar to that.

You don't have to be in the Army to attend this or even interested in joining, they should let you tag along.
