The greatest things about Summer, and Why I can't wait for it to get here!
I caught myself thinking all day today about Summer and how great it is going to be, especially this year. I don't know what sparked it. Perhaps the 7 inches of snowfall we got by me yesterday got me thinking about warmer time periods. Who knows. Anyway, I wanted to compile a list of things I can't wait for, and why they are so damn great. Feel free to comment and add your own reasons for loving summer.
1. BeerBeQue
The pinacle event of the summer months. Is there anything better? Grilling burgers, dogs, steaks, ribs. Enjoying ice cold beers with friends. Horseshoes, beer olympics, and endless kegs. This is the thing I look foward to every summer. The greatest of these events is ofcourse the Fourth of July BeerBeQue Spectacular.
2. Cold beer during a hot day
This is probably why I could not live in a climate where it is cold year round. I need a nice hot day to make me realize just how glorious that beer really is. It gets better the hotter it is out. The real pleasure just comes out and refreshes you like no other substance on earth can. Thirst quenchers like gatorade can suck it when it comes to an ice cold beer in temperatures hitting the upper 90s and above.
3. Beer League Softball
Mmmmm. Not much beats this sporting event. I am on the FD beerleague team in my town. Our beerleague is more an "old man softball" league but the middle aged guys and their sons have put it on lockdown. Last year a group of my friends aged 23-18 tried to get our team, "Los Berachos" or the drunks was gonna be the team name, but they rejected our roster and didn't give us any spots on the schedule. Luckily I got to play for the FD again, but this season there probably won't be a good turnout for the FD team leading me to find another team or just sit and watch the greatest event known to man.
4. Going to the shore
Ahhh, and we reach the true meaning of summer. Being able to hit the shore and not worry about 30 degree winds and water rivaling the Antartic. Weekend shore trips are always great. Perhaps I will rent a house for a week or two down the shore with a bunch of the guys, but who knows. Going down for day trips is good enough for me.
5. PNC Bank Arts Center
Yes. This is another great aspect of Jersey Summers. A nice outdoor venue with epic tailgates. Last summer a kid got killed, or overdosed, or something along those lines leading to a large police presense...but it hasn't and will not stop the tailgates at PNC. Grab a couple thirties, mix a jug of jungle juice, grab 4 of your friends, and head down. Last year I got the privilege of going to see Def Leppard, Foreigner, and Styx play and a couple days later went back to see Velvet Revolver and Alice in Chains. Good times. An added bonus is the traditional OAR concerts we host each and every summer here in Jersey.
6. Baseball
Nothing beats going to baseball games at Yankee stadium or Shea stadium during the summer. Spring games are great, but the summer is right in the middle of the season with developments already in motion and stats to get your behind your players and your team. Tailgates, peanuts and crackerjacks, and an *** load of traffic. Can't beat it. Unless you are a Met fan and have to mourn your team towards the end of the regular season.... damn.
7. Girls lose layers of clothing
Possibly the greatest positive result from the weather getting warmer during the summer is the girls losing layers strategically from April (mini skirts and halter tops) to August (when they walk around in daisy dukes and a bikini top). Got to love the girls of summer, as Steven Tyler once sang.
8. Weeklong, outdoor benders
Didn't you miss the great outdoors? Confined to bars, houses, and other indoor locations instead of drinking on decks, patios, parks, woods, etc. We bring back the outdoor benders. Nothing like parking your *** in a stolen lawn chair with a cooler and a portable grill next to you with a bunch of your close buddies trading off turns grilling and making beerruns. It is a good event. Especially the stealing portion of it.
9. Sam Adams Summer Ale
A great seasonal brew which only makes its way into my fridge once a year. I love it personally, and can't wait to go out and buy a couple cases for my beer fridge. I argue it is the best tasting seasonal brew, with octoberfest being a close second. I recommend you try some once May swings around.
You better believe I will add to this list as we approach the summer months. In fact, I will make a checklist of the events which I have partaken in as the summer progresses as well. Please feel free to add what you love best about the summer season!

Ah yes...Nothing better than feeling the sand go through your toes for the first in the year. Thankfully my family and I live only about an hour from Sand Hook NJ, and Island Beach NJ (two beaches we go to). I love going to Sandy Hook and seeing the NY skyline and all the freighters going to the harbor.

I've been to football, basketball, AFL, hockey and many other games and enjoyed them all, but nothing is better than going to a baseball game. I've had the honor of seeing a game at Yankee stadium with the Blue Jays. It really isn't all that nice of a stadium but the history there is incredible. I've been to a handful of games at Shea and I'm happy for the Mets that a new stadium will be there soon.
It is really great to be a Phillies fan. Great stadium with the best food (as said by the Food Network) and with great entertainment!

Not much to say here as you are accurate on everything!
You should also edit your post as you have two #3s.

The only bad thing about summer in the here, it's unbearably hot and humid. Unfortunatley, I'm not of age to drink alcohol yet, and I don't intend to break the law. The girls losing their clothing doesn't apply where I live since it's sunny year round with the occasional cold front.

Summer is usually the only time my family gets together other than funerals/weddings. We usually have a nice BBQ with loads of alcohol, etc.
Me and my college mates were planning on visiting Florida this summer (me as their "tour guide") but it's too late to plan it all now. I would also be the only one able to drive so drinking would be out of the question for me. Now we are going through the college to make them take us to America for "educational" purposes.
Summer for me usually consists of drinking, sleeping during the day rather than at night, and hopefully this year money.

personally my favorite aspect of summer is the fact that the shooting comps will be starting up again.
not really looking forward to all the various bugs though. mosquitoes, love bugs, gnats, june bugs, cicadas, and most especially, all the flying stingy bad bugs such as wasps and hornets. god i hate stinging flying bugs!

Don't focus on the negatives of summer. If there wasn't a risk behind doing things, they wouldn't be worth doing...would they? Everyone would do them. So you get stung a few times, the video of you running around drunk with a hornets nest on your head will last forever! Haha.
Thanks, I edited the duplicate #3 issue.

I can second that, things I look forward too are, water activities like wake boarding, fishing, water skiing, just cruisin around. My summer job of landscapin kicks in which is fun and I make good money, always warm out, take the bike out, sports car season. I love summer, in winter I snowboard and snowmobile but summer is so much more fun.

I'd have to say, the best part of my summer is no school. I know what I want to do with my life and right now, the **** that I'm learning is totally irrellevant (sp?). I love the sleeping until 2 p.m. and just chilling with friends all day. All day band practices. I'm more about just chilling then going out. Iunno. I'm mellow.

This is my last summer before college... But more importantly, my last summer AFTER HIGH SCHOOL! I'm pretty down lately seeing as how I got rejected from every college so far (I'm not the brightest) but still waitin on my #1 college of choice to lemme know where my future is going. Hopefully I'll get to go away, if not I'm going to community college for a bit.
Either way I'll apologize for a lack of (sensible) posts this summer because it'll be filled with lots of and a ****-ton of :tastesyu:. Light it up, drink it down eh? I'm one to enjoy my life while I can.
And by the way, the whole chicks losing layers situation is gonna be great. Especially at my job. ;)
