The fact that it took a long time actually makes it less possible. The reason it would evolve a wing(which would definitely start out as an unusable growth of some type) is to avoid dying, but since it wouldn't help it right away, that changed creature would die just as easily as the rest of them, so the chances of it working like natural selection says are extremely low, if not impossible altogether.

I wasn't really talking about apes and such, I was more talking about the theory that by natural selection, a single celled organism eventually spawned every different species in existence. I am saying we have no proof that anything can evolve out of its own species, and not a slightly varied species like the Darwin's finches, I mean like dinosaur-bird. I think they are similar, but not that one came form the other. It is a decent theory, but I am sure that with time it will be proven wrong/different as more technology and discoveries come.

IT avoids dying by learning to catch its prey better. It got lighter bones and stuff to jump higher to catch its prey whatever it was (insects) and then eventually got wings to gain more lift. Feathers could be used as a defense( look bigger) or because they gave surface area and more lift.

Its easy to find this stuff out if you just Google it. They don't just make it up, they came to a strong conclusion to why evolution happened.

I am a bit confused. The bird first gets lighter bones, that natural selection make sense. but it's still getting killed off, so it gets some feathers. Thats more defense, so far so good. But there isn't going to be a bird thats all the sudden born with a growth on its side(or both sides for that matter) that is strong enough to provide any lift. At some point, the premature wing is unusable, and since this all happens so slowly, it would not help the bird one bit. That's the only part that doesn't make sense to me.

Its not a growth... it evolved from like an arm... the bones resemble an arm.. and it was lighter and had feathers. It slowly got larger to give more lift... A wing didnt come out of no where... It didn't just run around with two legs biting at stuff before it had a wing. It probably had 4 limbs before two of those turned into wings

I thought about what unwritten law said, and have another question.

How does anything grow limbs, it runs into the same problems I talked about in the original "how did the bird grow a wing" problem. at some point it will be an unusable appendage, so wouldn't that make natural selection not work for it? I'm confused again.

Also, why does that one creature get born with a characteristic that is more fit for it's environment? Why does this even happen?

Do you know what I would like to know? I wanna know why you're asking us to prove and defend the theory of evolution to you. Nobody here is an anthropologist (well Law's learning) or a scientist. Most of the users here are in/just starting high school and probably have no full grasp on evolution as a whole (not trying to insult users by that) or they just really know that we came from apes. People could google an answer, but you could too. So why would you ask such a question when you know (or should know) that you won't get an answer that satisfies you?

The other thing I'm wondering is if you're so hung up on little gaps in the theory of evolution (like your bird wing example), what's your take on things? Where do you think we (and all other creatures) came from?

I'd like some real answers.
