Remote Starter and Security System for Cars
I was thinking about getting one for my car, and I was looking into the remote car starter that also came with the security options (In my opinion, that is the only way to go if you are going to get a remote starter after reading up and comparing several models). I personlly think that the 2-way technology is also a must (For those of you that are unfamiliar, it's the kit that comes with the keypad that has a LCD screen on it. When you send a signal to the car, it will send a signal back to your receiver for confirmation). They say the range is up to 1,250 feet (1/4 of a mile), but we all know that isn't going to hold true while indoors with several obstructions in the way.

So my question....Anyone have one already for their car? What do you like/dislike about it, and what model do you have?

Security systems for your car is one of the best purchases you can make for it. Not only does it someone help from car theft but also gives you an insurance break. Personally if were to get a really nice car that is hot on the market like a Porsche or any performance car stock or modded out, I would put low jack in it.

I like viper systems myself because they have a lot included. Like if you have a turbo this system has a built in turbo timer. Directed Electronics - Auto Security & Convenience Systems - Viper - ESP Systems

There is another brand that my friend has for his STi and I like it a lot because the fob has a little display to show you things and it vibrates if someone is trying to break into your car via the hood, trunk, smashing windows etc. I want to say its a viper system but I'm not sure.

My key has a built in fob and the car came with all the security stuff. Key less entry is the best.

I know a guy who invented a key less entry for a house.

You call a special receiver from your phone. You can unlock your doors, windows, pet cage, turn on/off the cooker (oven), all these kinds of things.

He also has a brand called Griffin which makes stuff for the I-Pod, I was going to get one from him, but my last one ended up in the pool so I'm having second thoughts.

They are pretty good, like some of them up north let you turn on your car heater using the key, mine did the A/C. (I live in Florida)

I have no clue what model it was though, sorry.

It's called a smart house. You can do anything you want from your cell phone, PDA, or laptop. Such as, turn on/off lights, close/open blinds/shades, unlock/lock doors/windows. Open/close, doors/windows. Look through security cameras etc.

If your car can do it you house can do it. I can put down the windows on my car with my fob so why can't your house?

Not that you need all those things for you car though. Lock/Unlock and trunk pop is all one really needs for keyless entry.

Sorry I'm just getting around to replying to this.

Thanks for the help Pan. After doing a lot more research, I'm definitely going to go with a Viper, I just need to decide on what model now. Reason being, Vipers have a lot more security options, as well as features such as the remote start, opening of the truck, etc...The other companies that put remote starters/security packages for the car are nice, but they don't have the reliability and quality that Viper seems to offer. The other brands and Viper are basically the same price, so I'll definitely take the the reliability and quality that I know I'll be receiving, which wouldn't be the case if I went with another company besides Viper.
