How to plug in gamecube controller

I know this is a stupid question but how do you plug in a gamecube controller to the wii, for the classic games?

there should be a slot to plug into somewhere near the place you plug in the memory card readers

If you remove one of the panels on the top of the Wii, you will see four slots for gamecube controllers. There is also a separate panel that can be removed to place up to two gamecube memory cards. Hope this helped!
