Nintendo Wii & GameCubeDiscuss the wide variety of games in general for the Wii & GameCube here. Game may already have its own section in 'Cross-Platform' above.
I played both and they're both very fun. I have a problem with how far out the screen zooms in Brawl, which is distracting in four player games.
Mario Kart Wii is freakin' awesome and a whole lot of fun. I tried it in Best Buy and it was great. I just don't know how much I could play it before it gets boring.
They're both excellent choices for single player as well as 4 player mayhem.
My suggestion, if you like both, would be would you rather get pummeled on a track or pummeled on a 2 dimensional board?
For my tastes, Kart is the way to go. It's much more fun for me as Smash seems like way too much is going on at once for me to process.
And by the way, welcome to the forums!

Thanks, nice to see another Yorker's opinion.
I have a sister that I'd be playing these games with who's older than I am. She played Brawl with me and a friend that brought it over and she said it's alright, even though it hurt her eyes playing it (I'm guessing she's on the same boat as you with the too much going on stuff).
I see where you're going with the too much going on concept. I, sometimes, got lost as well whenever there is too much going on in the game. Which is why I had to create a profile with my name to recognize my character.
I liked the original Super Smash Brothers, but ever since they re-created it, they strayed from the original concept by adding in some characters that are just questionable (Roy, Marth, Pit...). While others like Bomberman and Spyro were left out.

I played Mario Kart Wii in Best Buy twice and it was very fun and refreshing, but it was only twice. I don't know how many times I could play the same racing game with the same tracks over and over again.
I already own another racing game for the Wii that was one of the launch titles. I forgot the name of it, but it came with a free wheel for the Wiimote. It's not all that great, but I already have a game like Mario Kart and I'm thinking about getting something a little different. I mean, I own Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, (Racing Game's Name Here), and Mario Party 8 so I guess it could make some sense to get Brawl.
I have to choose one of these, and I know Brawl came out a while ago (March), so it's a bit older, making it sort of a weaker candidate for me. However, it is different than any other Wii game I own, but lacks use of the motion sensor.
I also want to get Metal Gear Solid 4 next month, so I'm basically screwed in waiting if I get one of these games now. I will have to wait at least half a month before I could get the other game after I get MGS4.
This post could be as confusing to follow as it was to put together for me. I'm trying to fit in some minor details here and there. I apologize for that.
mario Kart has 16 new tracks which I must admit are pretty cool, unique, and tremendous fun to play with 4 players. There are also 16 old school tracks which are graphically enhanced a bit so in total there are 32 tracks. Not bad for variety.
You can also use bikes instead of karts. I can't seem to let go of my Wario bike. In case you didnt know you can also play as your own mii character which is pretty damn funny. Online play is fun as well. Take your mii around the globe and show them who's boss.

Huh, I guess Brawl can wait. I didn't see anyone dispute this.

Wait bomberman and Spyro? WTF?!?!
Nintendo has never strayed from the original Brawl, everything has been literally the same, they've just been able to make each one bigger and better. I really cant say which one to get over another since these are two totally different genres, but I would say Brawl before Kart because there is more playtime, but eventually you have to have both.

this went through perfectly! didn't think it would happen.

I don't know, I just think that Spyro would be really cool. Bomberman is a must though. He is a mainstay in Nintendo history. As is Megaman (who I forgot to mention). Nintendo just totally missed with some of these characters. So much for six years in the making.
I anticipated both, I anticipated Brawl more, but I think it's somewhat overdone. I like to have a nice clean and fun game, but the developers of Brawl went way too far with everything. Either way, it's still pretty fun. You should try the original SSB again, and you may just see the real difference in how simpler is better.
I think you're right about the playtime. I'm getting the game today, so I have to make the ultimate decision now. Thank you for your input. I do, however, know for a fact that I will own both of these games eventually.
Despite the recommendation I went with Brawl for the simple reason of availability. It's to my surprise that Nintendo has released Mario Kart Wii a month ago and that it isn't available. I decided to just go for Brawl for now and get Mario Kart later. Either way, I know I will enjoy what I get and I can stomach the waiting period. Right now I want to save up some more money for Metal Gear Solid 4. That's my prerogative for now, but I still appreciate your recommendations.
Had Mario Kart Wii been available, I surely would have bought it.
I do enjoy Brawl (Even though my friend borrowed it) and I have yet to play Mario Kart. I am a HUGE MEGA Mario Kart fan and I really want it. I might end up buying it soon considering I am not worried saving money any more. I am so bad but hell as long as I pay bills and crap, I am happy. Anyway I am hoping to purchase it this week.

Good luck trying to find it. I went to a few stores and just gave up the hunt. If a game that was out for a month isn't available and it wasn't even necessarily highly advertised than it's just not worth getting right now. I will get it in the long run, but I'm having plenty of fun with Brawl, Rock Band, and (in some time) Metal Gear Solid 4.
1. Both are fantastic games. Both are also fantastic multiplayer games.
2. If you're alone more than with friends, get Mario Kart, it's a much better 1 player game, and it can satisfy you for hours.
3. If you have friends over a lot, and a lot of them, get SSBB, its probably the best multiplayer game out there for the Wii, and you and your friends will have a blast.
4. Now heres the thing: If you like Mario Kart, it's still a awesome multiplayer game. So I would advise you to get Mario Kart Wii, because it is both a fun multiplayer and single player game.
mario kart is really just nostalgic. It has levels from every game and little things but nothing really new. Brawl is the game to get, arguably the best one yet
i love both, and actually i was surprised how much time mariokart wii took away from my brawl playing; i figured i'd just play it enough to unlock everything and then go back to brawl, but now i have to struggle to decide which one to play, either alone or multi!
that said, however, while i do love the new mariokart, i think brawl is the better investment. the smash bros series is a staple for nintendo owners now, and since it takes longer to unlock everything in brawl, might as well get the jump on it sooner.
Mario Kart is still as fun as it ever was. However, I just don't understand all the excitement over Smash Brothers. I'ts just to out there for me, and will be traded in to help ease the cost of Metal Gear.
I own both games, and I enjoy them both. Brawl is loads of fun in multiplayer mode, and the Subspace single player mode is surprisingly fun. Many a night I've spent fighting against my friends.
My heart lies with Mario Kart, though. It all started with Double Dash on the GameCube--I played that game for hours and hours. That obsession carries over to Mario Kart Wii. The wheel is tricky and takes some getting used to, but all Wii games are like that, I think.
