Nintendo Wii & GameCubeDiscuss the wide variety of games in general for the Wii & GameCube here. Game may already have its own section in 'Cross-Platform' above.
Animal Crossing for the Wii will be an MMO/social networking title. It’s no great surprise – in a few short years, Animal Crossing has become one of Nintendo’s most-loved and top selling franchises (over seven million copies sold), particularly in Japan. Nintendo refers to the title as a ‘communications game’ rather than a videogame, and playing already depends on real-world timekeeping, weather patterns, social conventions, and above all else economic interactions. In almost every way, Animal Crossing has always been the perfect MMO concept, and this development is simply a fulfilment of that promise.
The game has yet to be officially announced (although Nintendo has at least confirmed that an Animal Crossing game is in development for the Wii) and so details are not so much thin on the ground as nonexistent. But there are some indications of where the game will take the series: Katsuya Eguchi, head of development for the project, has made relatively non-committal noises thus far, but hinted that connection to mobile phones and PCs (for basic functions such as messages) would be included in an interview as far back as last year. Animal Crossing’s earlier iterations already feature travelling between towns, the ability for players to live in the same town (though not to play in it at the same time), and the ability to design your own clothing – and to sell it.
Of similar import is the imminent arrival of an official DS flash card, which will initially just be available to allow Nintendo to sell the back catalogue of Game Boy and Game Boy Colour games. The uncontrollable homebrew and piracy communities that use the DS rely on similar devices for their more nefarious ends, but this should, in the long term, allow Nintendo to exercise some control over at least the former through the simple step of offering a path to publisher-supported content. Compared to the slightly vague WiiWare proposition, this has the possibility to revolutionise homebrew development – at least in terms of distribution and the possibility of mainstream success – but how far the notoriously controlling Japanese giant will allow that community the creative freedom it requires to flourish will only be seen in practice. And before getting too excited, the device will launch exclusively for old Game Boy content, initially.
These are two moves that might seem insignificant in the whirlwinds of Halo 3, Home and the AAA titles that will dominate Christmas headlines. But grandmaster Nintendo is already thinking many positions ahead, and these two announcements, when made, will only consolidate this winning stance.
Nice fricken post/topic... I've been hoping that someone else out there liked playing AC on the Gamecube, aside from my brother-in-law and his better half. It was hella fun talking about this game amongst ourselves... my wife thought the three of us were the biggest geeks when we B.S.'ed about the game whenever the family was together.
I can't wait for another good reason to play my Wii more often!

"Hey Creep, did you get the Xmas furniture yet?" LMAO......Oh, I can just see the hours of my life being attached to my Wii. This will not be a good thing! Animal Crossing and Viva Pinata opened up Pandora's Box!
Now where did I leave those turnips? I could make crazy cash if I visit my wife's town and sell them at a crazy rate...LOL
Nice find, Mike! While I was in Chicago last week, my son asked me to buy him a DS. I considered it and asked for prices. My wife and I decided it would likely make a good birthday present for him. As he was looking through the games, he happened to grab Animal Crossing 2!!!!!!!!!!!! Need I say that if he gets a DS for his birthday, Mom and Dad will wait for him to go to bed and then steal that toy!!!!!!
I play ACWW on my DS. I don't know if I would play it on the Wii though. It seems to just sit there on top of my self. I didnt even notice that my dogs chewed the cord until about a month later.
My only hope is that Nintendo does not try to overhaul the game itself. I believe that they had a winning formula with the original and would love to see a very similar game get released on the Wii! I would also love to see Nintendo give players a chance to go visit their online friend's villages.

I wouldn't think that they would. Nintendo is pretty good about keeping to working formulas in games. I can't wait to waste hours upon hours paying off my house just to get in dept again over a small increase in size. With the Wifi thing on the wii, I'm hoping that we can visit others houses so we can make it easier to get the final shop sizes and fruit that doesn't grow in your town.
I remember in the original version you were unable to get one certain fruit unless you invested in a Gameboy Advance. I believe it was the coconut. I hope that everything is packaged into the Wii version. I would also like to have the oppotunity to "boot" people from my town. I remember some of the residents wore out their welcomes relatively quick! I would find it entertaining to be able to slap an "evicted" sign on the front of someone's home!!!!!
I would still like to pimp-slap the giraffe who made me buff her car to get a "designer" shirt! It made me look fat. You would think she would have known that stripes are not good on me...
Extremely valuable post here! I would love to see these abilities, but I would hold on until there are official details and a release date to be sold!!!!!
I'm reviving this post cause I wondered why it was a sticky. I was a fan of this game when it first came out for the gamecube. The cool features and quirky characters attracted me and helped me stay with the game. Maybe if more action features were packed into it as well.
I also heard Harvest Moon might be coming out with like a MMO style game in the future but haven't heard anything about it in awhile.
Still no new information about this game. Some sites are say that it will come out this year some time. I personally can't wait. Another game that will sap every last moment of free time out of my life.
