    The Political Thread

Straight up Politics right here. Since we have a religion thread (See the "Atheism" thread), We should have one of these.

Ok, As it stands, Who are your primary canidates for this years upcoming election?

I'm going with Edwards, and Huckabee. Edwards seems like he could get us out of this mess that Bush got us into. I don't why about Huckabee, But something about him says to me, he'd make a good president.

I'm not even registered to vote yet, sigh.

Anyway, I'll be registering as independent because I dont care about primaries, but if it is between Huckabee and Obama, because Im not a fan of Hill-dog... I dont know. I feel like they both have good views and would both do well. I read Obama's biography and he is a really smart and insightful individual. Huckabee has chuck norris backing him. I haven't really decided who I'll vote for once I get around to registering.

But isnt it up to the electoral college anyway?

    Same, if I register.

Here's what I learned on Government last year.

When citizens vote, they aren't voting for a presidential candidate, but rather someone that is highly likely to vote someone else that will go to electoral college that is highly likely to vote for the candidate the citizen voted for. So it's basically just a huge waste of time.

It pretty much says "we like our citizens to vote for the president, but we feel they aren't knowledgeable enough to make a good choice of president." Good call COUGHBUSHCOUGH

My 18th b-day is on november 19, I'll miss the election by a week and the primarys by a lot longer, it sucks. If I could, I would vote for huckabee, I love what he wants to do with the tax system. I don't really like anyone on the democrat side, but tbh, anyone's better than hillary in my book.

It's interesting that obama could very well turn out to be the first black president tho...kind of exciting.

I'll be honest that I really don't care enough about politics to pay that much attention to it. I'm not going to vote based on what someone looks like or their attitude, but I'm not gonna look too far into it either. I'll be 18 on May 29th and I'm registering independent. I don't like that people choose democratic or whatever and still disagree with a lot of things that their party does or whatever. I've got a while.

If I was still over there and I could actually vote, I would vote for Obama hands down.

The other candidates either aren't convincing or is a female.

I want Obama to win for the simple fact it would bring a first to the US in that he is black. I know Hilary Clinton would also bring a first, but she is a woman and I wouldn't want to live with knowing I helped empower a woman.

Well I have a right to my opinion, so anyone who wants to oppose it also has a right to. I wont ask why I will be flamed because I know most people won't like what I said, but politics is politics and it can get messy.

It's not that I hate women or anything like that, so don't think I am generally sexist. There's no point in holding back your opinion in a thread like this.

A lot of people have said a good point that if he DOES get elected, he will probably get assassinated... But it would still be great to have someone be the first, so others may come.
It's all very dumb to vote for a guy just because he is a different race. The guy's gonna be the president, listen to his views and vote based on those.
