Your not understanding, You can still make a halo movie like starship troops in a starship troopers way, still including the main character. Im not sure if any of the books ever really gave master chief a name and face, just alluded to his pale skin, from being in the suit too long. However that could be a great chance to of finding out master chiefs origin, and explaining the spartan program, thier first battles, and thier ultimate demise outside of a paperback. Then throw a second and third movie more on the videogames if they want. Or both in one movie.

Yes, these are possible ingredients for a B grade sci-fi movie, and the story is so typical and sci fi-outdated , suicidally bordering on star wars junk and stereotypicality. Unluckily there never was any new concept, other than the mystery around Master Chef's character. Its just an another episode of a typical sci-fi tv episode of the 80's, even worse !! . It's good they cancelled the Halo Film concept ,coz i hate to see an another bad name for video games .There are some other games to make stories off, and they dont need $200 millions to flop epicly, and give us VG fans the ultimate epic blow. I will try giving the details of why the film was cancelled , here:
Both Fox and Universal have decided to pull the plug on the Halo movie adaptation due to concerns over the rising budget and novice director Neil Blomkamp. The budget on the film has been rumored to approach $200 million, well above the original $135 million.

The main ingredients of a B grade sci fi movie are bad budgets bad writers and bad special effects, but why would this game be more or less a bad candidate for a movie than any other game? if youve read any of the books theres alot that can be put into a movie, and the spartan program (even involving master chief) is a really intresting concept. The special effects for a spartan covenant battle would be pretty awsome, and with 200 million in the budget, alex garland(the beach/28 days later) on the script and peter jackson producing it, B grade is an insane exageration.
You complain about sterotypical, but just about every sci fi movie idea has been done, 5 times. Its just how you present it that makes the difference. Besides, people are watching the movie because they like halo, not because its a groundbreaking new sci fi thriller.

Ok, maybe mentioning B-grade was wrong. ( I didn't get an other word to properly describe it ). However the story is still pretty lame. And it easily would bomb like hell with a $200 million budget, hence it's stupid to take risks with such big money, especially with the video game curse notwithstanding.
You can see the budget profile for a universal hero movie below ( 10 times bigger than master chef) and read how much money it really takes to make it all just a profit - 400 million , with all the desparate budget cuts !!!! And not to mention it was the 25th best all time money grosser.

The producers have all reasons to believe Halo will fail, and that's it. They know the economics more than us. Probably if it was a 100$ million movie, they would have continued work on it, but the 200m $ just about did it finally.

MGS4 was pretty much like a movie, i see no reason to make a movie out of MGS.
But i wouldn't mind seeing mgs on the big screen.
