Snake: " Metal gear, i thought all the projects were scrapped....?"
Anderson is more amazed by the fact that snake knew about Metal gear and asks how he knew, since it was a heavily guarded dirty secret. Snake does not tell the reason. Due to the resultant noise, A guard (Johnny) comes up. Snake quickly hides . The guard enquires about the noise and tells Anderson to shut up. Anderson, however, waves off the guard...
Anderson tells that all the mentioned terrorists were experts in handling nuclear weapons being members of Foxhound, and since REX is now in their hands, they can easily launch the nuclear weapon. Unknown to snake and Anderson, the woman who snake saw in the cell adjacent to this, was eavesdropping into their whole conversation.........
Snake asks if there is a way of stopping a launch,since every nuclear weapon has some . He is told that there is the PAL safety system- 2 passwords , that are required to be input , in order to launch . Donald Anderson has one and Kenneth Baker had the other. However he mentions that Psycho Mantis, has discovered his one with his mind probing abilities,and there was little he could do. He tells that if they are able to get Baker's one too similarly, there is no way they could be stopped. However, Suddenly The DARPA chief gets reminded of a safety mechanism that can be employed to override even the passwords. This was developed by Armstech to be used in a emergency scenario, so that even the passwords can be over-ridden, and the launch can be stopped/ activated, based on what state it was in at that time. Apparently Kenneth Baker had 3 card keys required to do this and was being held in the lower basement. Anderson then begins to press Snake for details as to whether the government will give into the terrorist's demands and whether there are any other safety measures to over-ride the PAL for Metal Gear that the government knows . Snake insists, in his usual nature, he doesn't know anything..... Anderson seems unhappy. Suddenly, the DARPA chief begins to convulse violently, falls to the ground and dies. Snake crouches at his side to confirm his condition and contacts Naomi and Campbell VIA CODEC where both parties conclude their belief that it must be a heart attack that killed Anderson.
Snakes rises from the DARPA chief's side and hears the muffled sounds of a struggle in the next cell. Leaving his cell and moving on to the other, snake first notices the body of a soldier lying unconscious on the floor ( johnny). Snake has a gun pointed at his head by the "guard" on duty.
"You killed the chief, you Bastard ? "
When Snake looks at the guard ,who was wearing a face cover, he can tell from the shaking gun pointing at him that she is "green" and plays on her inexperience by taunting her ("Are you gonna' shoot me rookie?"). In that split second, snake pulls out his gun, The lady guard tries to remain focussed. Snake taunts her that he could understand from her nervousness that she had never pointed a gun at anyone and hence cannot shoot him.
"Careful...i am no rookie"
Snake: "Liar, your eyes wander, there's no confidence in them,
the eyes of a rookie"
Woman: "You talk too much"
Snake: "You are not one of them, are you"
Woman: "You got a card from the chief,dont you....move out...we can get the hell out of here....".
When things between them reach the tensest stage ,enemy guards swarm
the cell. The female guard just stands there unable to say a word. While shooting the soldiers Snake shouts at the female soldier "What are you doing? Dont think, just shoot !" As if woken up, she immediately begins shooting the guards storming the cell with her FA-MAS and soon the threat has been eliminated. She walks to the door of the cell block and sarcastically thanks him for his help and begins jogging to the elevator. Just as Snake begins persuing- she turns around and shoots blindly into the area Snake was running through, he dodges the bullets and she escapes through the elevator.
Snake looks to where she was...and hallucinates a man with a gas mask , floating at the elevator. The mysterious figure smiles and says:
"Good Girl...just like that " at that point and disappears.

It was in the pre-mission briefing. Remember, you could choose 3 different camera angles and everything had that amber filter over it? This is also where Naomi injects snake with Foxdie, they talk about Snake's similarity to liquid (Snake's natural hair color is blonde, not brown), etc.

And I'm also confused about Johnny. He DID get injected with 1st gen nano's while he was here in alaska. Shouldn't he have at least felt some effects of the nano's when he met up with snake? Well, I guess snake had recently been injected with 2nd gen nano's, so maybe only they are affected.

Johnny wasn't injected in the events of MGS1. As he mentioned in MGS4, he had managed to skip these injections all the time along ( because of fear of needles) .Also more explanations will be coming up buddy, in MGS1 Itself....

Snake contacts Naomi to ask her about what we just saw . She assumes that it was most likely "psychometric interference coming from Psycho Mantis.."
( Fox-hound's Psychic ). Snake takes the elevator downstairs into the armory of the compound and uses C4 explosive to gain access to a secret area where the ARMSTECH president is being kept prisoner. When he arrives in the large room he see's the president tied to a large central pillar. Upon closer inspection it is revealed the pillar is booby trapped with wires that would set off C4 explosive connected amongst the central column. Just as snake was thinking of a way to diffuse the whole trap, a bullet is fired towards him. Snake instinctly dodges the bullet and looks at the shooter.
"Touch that wires, and the C4 will blow up along with the old man"
Snake : "Who are you?"
The man, who seemed to be in his 60's, with old hair, does cool juggle tricks with an old fashioned revolver in his hand.
" REVOLVER.........OCELOT....." he says.
He mentions that he has heard about Solid snake from his boss. He shrugs his revolver and tells snake: " This revolver, the Colt single action Army, is the greatest handgun ever made. 6 bullets. More than enough to kill anything that moves..... Now i will show you why they call me REVOLVER...."
A swift gun-fight ensues. Snake skillfully manages to escape the six bullets and for a moment, Ocelot is amazed and impressed.
" You are pretty Good......, Just what i expect from the man who has the same codename as the Boss.... " . However, he says that he was just getting warmed up before, and starts to draw out his gun again.
In a split second, however the unexpected happens. ...

When Ocelot hides behind a pillar to reload ", a quick, mysterious figure, with a metallic exoskeleton and a long samurai sword, jumps out of nowhere and cuts off Ocelot's right hand (with its gun still in it) as well as cutting Kenneth Baker down from his trap. Ocelot cry s in pain and retreats.
Snake confronts the figure .....
Snake : "What the hell, who are you?"
Man in exoskeleton: " I am like you.......... without a name...."
A cool battle between snake and the cyborg ninja ensues. The ninja is amazingly swift and could even cut off snake's bullets with his sword. The ninja looks menacingly at snake and is prepared for the kill. However, suddenly it started shaking violently and retreats...
Kenneth Baker seemed to have identified the figure as he was still regaining himself after being cut down. Helping the ARMSTECH President to his feet, Snake sits him down against a wall and questions him about the password.
Kenneth Baker tells that he had talked... Snake is really angry. Baker replies that there's nothing he could do, in fact he had tried his maximum not to talk. He mentioned that he even managed to resist Psycho Mantis's Mind Probe's,and had only submitted to a brutal psychical torture session by Ocelot. Snake is amazed and asks how he managed to escape from Psycho Mantis's mind probe's. He replies that Psycho Mantis didn't succeed because of surgical implants inside the ARMSTECH President's brain that protected him from psychic probes. He says that both Anderson and himself were implanted with similar psychic insulation mechanism in their brains, to resist even the toughest of psychic p robe's. Hearing this snake is amazed and tells Baker that Anderson had told him that Psycho Mantis was able to read his mind. Baker is surprised himself but mentions that psycho Mantis can outreach himself and could possibly have done that. He is also angry when he hears that Anderson died of a heart attack- saying its impossible and is led to believe that Snake came to the island to "shut them up" . "I dont believe you, are you sent by Jim ?" Calming him down, Snake asks Baker about the 3 card keys he apparently has in his possession and Baker says that he gave them to a young female soldier who refused to take place in the rebellion and was incarcerated.
Snake guesses " Could it possibly be the Colonel's niece ? " . Baker also says he was in contact with the soldier VIA the stolen guards CODEC and tells him he could contact her by finding her number "on the back of the CD case".
Baker also tells Snake there may be one person who could find out a way to stop Metal Gear. Its chief engineer, Hal Emmerich, might know a way to stop or even destroy the weapon.
Baker elaborates on the history of Metal Gear. With the end of the nuclear age at the turn of the century it would be thought it would mean the end of the arms race- not so. Infact, the threat of nuclear war is greater than ever he says. With nuclear waste storage buildings filled to capacity uses for the material's had to be found. Greater pounds of MUF (Material Unaccounted For) are being reported every year and Russian nuclear engineer's had nowhere to turn, except terrorism, to find employment in their fields. This proves the existence of a well- maintained black-market for nuclear weapons. Since pretty much any nation could afford to have a nuclear weapon's program- a new launch system of overwhelming power was required. ARMSTECH suffered badly due to cut back's in the military and their failure to produce the next line of fighter jets. The construction of Metal Gear was the company's last hope. However, the construction of Metal Gear was financed confidentially by the Pentagon so mainstream-Government exposure to the project was unlikely. This means that the capabilities of Metal Gear are not restricted by "bureaucrats and hard liberals".
"Bribes?" Solid Snake asks.
"I prefer to think of them as 'good business'" Baker retorts

The exercise on Shadow Moses island was to test Metal Gear's capabilities with a dummy warhead- after that the Metal Gear program was to be formally adopted. Baker gives Snake the sole remaining copy of metal gears test data- the main hard drive that was almost destroyed in the recent gunfire. The terrorist's didn't know of the existence of such a disk.
Snake : " What kind of data ? "
Baker asks snake not to act like he doesn't know anything , in fact he is now assuming that snake must have been sent by the pentagon to get this , but however since he had no choice now, he is giving it to snake anyway.
Snake ask's Baker about the mysterious Ninja that cut off Ocelot's hand- since Baker seemed to have identified him. As Baker is explaining the cyborg to be "FOX-HOUND's dirty little secret" and experimental genome soldier , he begins to convulse like the DARPA chief...in the process talking to himself about how the Pentagon Bastards "actually went and did it! " His last words, before he succumbs to a heart attack are "They are just using you to....". Snake could only watch, as Baker succumbs. Speaking to Campbell and Naomi via CODEC both parties agree that Baker died from what appeared to be a heart attack just like Anderson. Snake ask's Naomi about the Ninja and she stresses that no-one like it is in FOX-HOUND. Snake is already feeling the heat, as many strange things are starting to unfold before him......

Snake makes contact with the woman that Baker menioned, over the CODEC.
Woman : "Who are you, how did you know my......."
Snake: " "I was really impressed by the way you BUSTED yourself out of there"
Woman : "Are you the one from the prison?"
Snake: "You are the colonel's neice , aren you?"
Woman : "....Just exactly who are you?"
Snake : "I am the fool your uncle sent to this hellhole"
Woman: "You came alone,. trying to be some kind of hero?"
Snake: "I dont need lectures...you are just like your uncle, you know !!"
Woman : "How do you know my uncle?"
Snake: "we go long way back"
Woman: "Whats your name?"
Snake: "My name is not important"
Woman : "Aha......could you be.....Solid snake....?"
Snake: "thats what some people call me"
Woman: "Solid snake,you?"
The lady quickly takes off her face-mask and reveals herself to be Meryl itself, the colonel's niece. She tells that she was sorry for mistaking him.She says that she thought he must have be a bad guy.
Snake: "But i knew you weren't..."
Meryl : "How?"
Snake : "its your eyes....they are not soldier's eyes...they are beautiful, compassionate eyes.."
Meryl : "Just what i expected from the legendary Solid snake...You are trying o sweep me off my feet, arent you?"
Snake: "Dont worry, you will land back on them, once you meet me, reality is no match for the legend...i am afraid" , ...but...... why did you look so surprised when you saw my face? "
Meryl : "You look exactly like him...i mean the terrorist leader....you, are not brothers, are you ?"
Snake : "I have no family...."
Meryl : So whats the deal then ? "
Snake : "i don't know, maybe i will ask him personally "

snake then asks meryl that since she was involved in this exercise from the beginning, did she know what exactly happened here?.
She informs Snake that she had come here for training the same day she was captured, and didnt know much. But from what she knew, the island is owned and operated by a dummy corporation of ARMSTECH (It is a civilian base) , and is nowhere close to being just a nuclear disposal facility. It is being used for the metal gear. Fox hound and the Next Gen special forces were called here for the test launching of a dummy warhead.
Snake : "But why Foxhound ? "
Meryl : "you are just like em...they never told you anything , did they? .....ok...its because they are a special ops group used to handling top secret missions. "
Snake: "they must have been testing nuclear warheads for a long time, right? So why just this time?"
Meryl: "i heard it's because this was to be a formal test, just before the final adoption of the metal gear program."
Snake : "Hmm.sounds kinda fishy..what do the terrorists exactly want? ...i heard they wanted the remains of BigBoss, but thats a strange request for such a big deal, huh..."
Snake then enquires about the detonation keys and tells he is amazed she was able to hide them from the guards.Meryl replies that women have more hiding places than men....!!
Meryl enquires about Baker and is shocked to know that he died of a heart attack. Snake asks if she knew the person who designed Metal gear, Hal Emmerich. She tells that he must be in the reasearch lab in the 2nd floor building of the Nuclear warhead storage building to the north. Since they need him until the weapon finally launches, they wont kill him anyway, but thats still until the weapon launches.
Snake replies that he is heading there right away. Meryl tell that she will also follow him. Snake tells that she still isnt ripe enough for battle. Good luck doesnt last forever...You pause for one second in front of your enemy and it's all over....."
Meryl becomes little emotional and replies " I dont know why i couldnt pull the trigger then ...its not like what i used to do in training...the fact that i could be taking someone's life was frightening......How, ....can you do this ? "
Snake : "its not like shooting targets in training...."
Meryl : "I ..always..dreamed of being a soldier...every day of my life..i have trained my life and body for the one day i would finally see some real action...and now....."
Snake consoles her and replies that he will be heading to save the doctor, and asks her to hold on to her card keys. Snake repeatedly warns her that the real battle field is an another reality in itself and asks her not to just jump into action, just so that she could prove something to herself...or whatever...

Snake goes through the hangar door but while going across the field on the other side of it he receives a CODEC call from an unknown person . He warns him that there are claymore mines in the field ahead, and to use a mine detector.
Snake : "Who are you?"
Person :"Just call me Deepthroat....."
Snake: "Deepthroat? The informant from the watergate scandal?"
the mysterious guy again doesn't reply for that, but gives him an another warning that a tank is behind the blast door on the otherside of the snowfield waiting to ambush him, just as he steps in.
Snake : "Who are you, anyway ? "
Person : "One of your fans...".
Then he cuts off from the CODEC.....

Sure enough, snake has to evade well disguised Claymore mines in the field ahead. When Snake moves through the blast door ahead, a blast is fired at him (which he just manages to dodge) and a tank roll's out from behind the blast door. The man controlling the tank is Vulcan Raven.

An imposing figure looks out of the tanker hole. He looks like a Shaman, and a raven comes and perches on his back.
"This is Raven's territory, Snakes dont belong in Alaska, I will not let you pass."
An another shot is fired from the tanker and this time in the resultant explosion, snake is knocked off the floor into a nearby box, and falls to the ground.
"Yes...you should crawl like the snake you are.. thats the place where you belong... Come let's fight". Saying this, Raven retreats into the tanker. The tanker propels towards snake, fullguns blasting.
Snake uses the card box boxes in the vicinity to his advantage. He manages to secure a claymore mine from the ground, and with infinite precision, manages to throw it through the narrow firing fun, into the cabin. A soldier, who was in fact piloting the tank this time ( telling us that the true Raven Battle is still not over!!) screams upon seeing the bomb falling inside. He jumps out just in time before the bomb explodes, destroying everything inside the cabin. Unluckily for him, he comes up directly in front of snake, for whom just a quick blow was enough to subdue the guard.
Snake secures a card key from the body and walks away nonchalantly towards the Nuclear Warhead Storage Building. Vulcan Raven looks out of the tanker towards snake, communicates with Liquid Snake and Revolver Ocelot (he actually calls the latter "General Ivan" in this instance- a reference to "Ivan the Terrible" A Russian historical figure) He warn's the two not to underestimate Solid Snake- he is a worthy adversary.

Making his way through the storage building Snake comes to the computer labs on floor B2...and stumbles upon a metallic hallway filled with corpses of genome soldiers littered all around ...they appeared to have been cut with a blade. The soldiers who are alive cant see anything, except some electric sparks emanating from something or someone, that they know is moving and killing them . They fire blind shots but all they hear is the sound of bullet hitting metal. This kindof invisible thing works swiftly, killing all the genome soldiers in the hallway. ..rather brutally , with his sword. A barely alive soldier stumbles around the corner saying if it was a ghost...just as another soldier is impaled on the blade of a Katana sword. who then walks off into the computer labs.
Snake follows and see's it confronting a quivering, terrified scientist, crawling backwards on the ground - so scared he soil's his pants.
scientist : "Stealth Camoflauge? who are you? ...."
The invisible thing presses a switch and it's form is revealed. Snake could see that it is the same Cyborg Ninja, that he had encountered at Baker's room.
"Where is my friend?" the ninja enquires to the scientist, holding his sword at his neck..
Scientist: "Friend?... what are you talking about"
Snake quickly fires a bullet towards the ninja, but it is so alert that it turns around and cuts out the bullet into 2 pieces , matrix style, one of the pieces changing direction and hits the scientists leg, deeply hurting him.
Ninja: " SNAKEEEE.........."
"I have been waiting for you snake....."
Snake : "Who are you ? "
The Ninja makes it clear to Snake that he has not taken sides (is not there to help Snake or work against him- he is "from a world" where such terms are meaningless) .
"I have removed all obstacles, snake....now you and i will battle to the death..... I have waited a long time for this day ....now i will enjoy the moment .."
Snake " "What is it...Revenge?"
Ninja : "Its nothing as trivial as Revenge...A fight to the end with you...only in that can my soul find respite... NOW...Make me feel....MAKE ME ALIVE AGAIN......."
The Ninja throws away his sword and invokes snake for a tense Hand-to-hand combat duel (The Ninja believes that it is foolish to use weapons- "hand-to-hand is the basis of all combat", Only a coward would leave his life in the hands of weapons.)
There was no doubt that both these warriors were so equally matched. It seemed so intense that the person who could get the first hit would be it.
After a long duel, Snake manages to get a punch landed which hurtles the ninja a little backwards, onto the floor.....
"Niceeee....i felt that, snake.......Noww.... do you remember me ? "
Snake : ".....It cant be........"

Snake: "You were killed in Zanzibar...."
Suddenly the cyborg Ninja's suit starts malfunctioning and electric field's are stabbing out from all over his body. It begins to suffer the same effects as the DARPA chief and ARMSTECH President.
Snake: " What......not again....."
But instead of dying...the ninja somehow manages to get up, and quickly retreats off in a flash.
Snake quickly calls up the Colonel. For the first time, he seems petrified since he's just seem to have known something that shakes him a lot .
Snake: " GRAY FOX.....Colonel.....That Ninja is GRAY FOX...."
Colonel "Ridiculous...You yourself in Zanzibar Land....."
Naomi : "Yes...he should have been killed..but he's still alive"
Colonel " "What ?"
Naomi : "It..happened after i joined the FOXHOUND medical staff. They were using soldiers for their gene-therapy experiments."
Colonel :"I never heard that"
Naomi: "It happened after you retired. My predecessor Dr.Clark was in charge of the experiment.
Colonel : "Dr.Clark?"
Naomi: "Yes..she started the Gene-therapy experiments."
Snake: "Where is she now"
Naomi : "She was killed in an explosion in her lab 2 years ago.....Apparently for their test subject, they decided to use the body of a soldier who was recovered after the fall of Zanzibar Land".
Colonel : "But he was already dead..."
Naomi: "They revived him..They fitted him with a Prototype exoskeleton and kept him drugged for 4 years , while they experimented on him like a plaything.......All these Genome Soldiers were born from these experiments."
Snake: "Naomi..why didn't you tell about this sooner?"
Naomi : "because its confidential information"
Snake : "Is that the only reason ? "
Naomi : "........"
Colonel :"What happened to grey fox after that?""
Naomi : "Records say he died in that same accident in the lab 2 years ago".
Colonel : "Even if that ninja is Grey fox, the question is, why?"
Snake: "From what i saw, even he didn't knew who he was..."
Colonel :"You are saying he's just living off his will to fight?"
Snake : "i am not sure...but i know we will meet again.."
Naomi : "So, you will fight again..until you kill him....?"
Snake :"Hmm..i would rather not..but maybe that's what he wants".

Snake walk's over to the closet where the scientist hid. After convincing him to emerge he confirm's the scientist's identity as Metal Gears Chief Engineer Hal Emmerich.
When Snake asks Emmerich about Metal Gear he explains that its just a mobile TMD (Theater Missile Defense) , designed to shoot down nuclear missiles, and hence to be used for defensive purposes.
Angry, Snake grab's him by the collar and aggressively tells him the terrorist's intention to use Metal Gear as a launch system for a nuclear warhead.
Emmerich is shocked to find they plan to put a nuclear warhead in a TMD launcher. He convinces Snake he didn't know what Metal Gear was
really used for ,by saying the armament of Rex was built a different department- supervised personally by President Baker who also supervised the assembly of the final unit. Because he wasn't involved with the armament directly, Emmerich doesn't know what Rex is truly capable of .
According to Emmerich, Metal Gear has a launcher on its back for 8 missiles. Snake questions this saying that if it just used standard warhead's then all the test data should have been collected before the exercise on Shadow Moses Island . Otacon realises Metal Gear's co-developer Rivermore National Labs was working on a new technology that, up until that point, had only been tested in virtual environments. The test on Shadow Moses Island was for the new technology.

Emmerich realizes the mistake he made in being so naive in the construction of Metal Gear and begins to blame himself and starts crying (This is made all the more worse through his families connection to nuclear weapons- his grandfather worked on the Manhattan project and his father was born on August 6th 1945- the day of the Hiroshima bombing).
He tells that he had always wanted to change the bad name that his family had, and thats why he had agreed to to the metal gear design work, since it was to be used for solid defensive purposes. He now assumes that whatever he tries to do, maybe his family must have the curse of nuclear weapons written into their DNA....so, nothing will work right for him.
Emmerich manages to pulls himself together, somewhat (thanks to some not-so urging from Snake) and the operative ask's him about Rex's location, which Emmerich explains is in a underground maintenance base north of the Island. Emmerich also say's that since they haven't sent for him for a few hours they must be ready to launch. Snake tell's him to go and hide and contact's Meryl to get her to look after him, but before she can answer she is spotted by guards and communication with her is abruptly cut off.
Emmerich explains that if he want's to find her he has to look in the only place where she will be by herself, alone . Snake ask's where that is and Emmerich blatantly tell's him not to be so naive. Emmerich also tell's
Snake to take his keycard so he can progress further through the base.
As snake is handed over the card,Snake begins to worry about whether he too will suffer the same affect's as the DARPA Chief and the ARMSTECH President. He starts enquiring if he is ok . Emmerich gets all defensive with Snake's sudden, caring change of character and is seemingly fine.( it LOOKS a bit homo-erotic, thats about it, nothing else,guys !!!!!) He also tell's Snake to call him 'Otacon' (Which stands for Otacu Convention- a person who likes Japan Animation or 'anime') .Otacon originally got into science to make robot's like the ones in the cartoons. Otacon tells Snake his CODEC frequency and then goes off- with the ability to hide easily because he has a stealth unit the same as the ninjas, which can make him invisible.

Making his way out of the lab and upstairs - Snake spot's Meryl entering the female bathroom (as otacon had suggested ! ) and follows her. Inside she sneaks up on him (again) , just as he enters in.
Snake turns back and she's Meryl in her under wear.He takes a small look and Meryl replies : "Hey, men aren't allowed here"
Snake pauses for a while and says : "I ..had...no idea you were so ..feminine...."
Meryl : "This is no time to try and him on me, snake...besides..its a waste of time...When i joined up,they had given me psycho-therapy to destroy my interest in men".
Snake says he is impressed. Snake now enquires why she had taken off her disguise ( of the genome soldiers ) now , she could be caught. She mentions that its because the uniform had started smelling blood, and she couldnt wear it now .
Snake spots the tattoo of a fox on her shoulder. Meryl says that she had been a great fan of Foxhound, when guys like him and her uncle were part of it .It was not a result of any gene-therapy and such, they were real heroes. Snake reminds her that he was never a hero, since there were no winners or losers in a battlefield. Meryl however replies that he has fought for the people. Snake says that he never fought for anyone else, but himself. He establishes himself as a cold individual who feels his best and most alive when his taking other lives. Meryl is shocked, to say the least, at this revelation of his character.
Meryl asks snake to cheer up, she then asks how he recognized her in disguise.
Snake : "I never forget a lady."
Meryl : "So, there's something you like about me, huh.."
Snake : "Yeah.....you got a great butt.."
Meryl : "Butt..? oh, i see...first it's my eyes..now its my butt..what's next?"
Snake: "In the battlefield, you don't think what comes next".

There's a moment of silence. Changing the subject Snake informs Meryl that
negotiations with the terrorists by the government, did not have any progress & how, essentially, its all up to Snake. They find they have 2 options- initiate the safety system by putting in the card-keys, or destroy metal gear itself. However, to use the safety system, they need the 3 card keys- Meryl shocks snake by telling that she has just one card key, the location of the other 2 is a mystery. Meryl wants to try and convince Snake to let her go with him- she knows the base better than him and can act as a navigator. Snake is apprehensive (knowing that Campbell would want Meryl to be safe) . & that she would slow Snake down as well. Disappointed,meryl goes up to a nearby mirror .
Meryl : "I had always wanted.. to be..like my father..he was killed in action, when i was younger.. i thought...if i could become a soldier, i could understand him better...." . She mentions that she had never even used make-up or been like other girls- she had had her heart set on the military her whole life. It had been her driving force. By being through the experiences on Shadow Moses island she's now come to realize something- up until that point she had never TRULY looked at herself. She had never made her own dicisions. She had always viewed herself as someone who had to follow. She cries, feeling the emotion of what she just realized.
She kind of emerges a new lady, and tells snake that he can shoot her if she fails or becomes a deterrence. Snake agrees. He reminds her that This is a war- there is no heros or heroines . They will die if they do.
Realizing the importance of their actions Meryl brings herself together & tell's him that they have to take a route through the commander's room in order to get through to where Metal Gear is being stored- because the overland route is blocked by glaciers.
They leave the bathroom and as they make their way to the commanders room Meryl suddenly starts having a deep headache ... She clasps her head and cringing in pain,falls on the ground. She asks snake not to come closer. Snake however does, and suddenly meryl gets up, new,but as if tranced.
"come..snake...i m fine...." . She gets up and walks off, as if possessed. She reaches the lift and tells snake:
"Come on...Mr.Foxhound, the commander is waiting..."
Amazed at the sudden change of events, snake still follows her to the lift.

They reach the commander's room. Suddenly, meryl starts to feel the headache again, and falls to the ground. Snake tries to lift her up, Meryl looks at snake, her eyes in a trance. She lifts her hand and touches snake's face and asks:
"Snakeee...do..you...like me....?"
Snake : "What..the.."
She gets up ,moves seductive around snake and slowly rests herself on his shoulders , holding on to him.
Meryl : "Hold me ..snake....Make me feel like a woman....make Love to me..."
She tries to, but suddenly she moves back and holds a gun towards snake...

Then, a husky voice whispers in the background . "Snakee... i want you....."
Snake turns around and sees the thin guy in a gas mask, floating above the ground. It surely seems that Meryl is in control of this guy, as she waveringly points her gun at snake......for a moment..snake looking at meryl hallucinates the guy instead of her face.
"You,,,,dont like girls......"

Snake : "PSYCHO Mantis.....?"

Great job Metal Gear Pain !!I I Liked ure stories on the 1st Metal Gear Games best because I haven't played anything b4 Metal Gear Solid 1998. You're clearing up so much confusion for me now. Even better than the MGS database on PSN.

Realizing Meryl is under his mental control and will shoot him if he doesn't act, Snake manages to catch Meryl by surprise and manages to knock her out for the time being, before she could fire at him.
Mantis : "Useless woman..."
Snake sees mantis floating slowly towards him..
Snake: "Optic camoflauge...huh....I hope thats not your only trick..?"
Mantis ( agitated ): "You...you doubt my power ..? Now, i will show you why i am the most powerful practitioner of psychokinesis and telepathy in the whole world..........."
Snake is goingto tell something, when mantis replies before-hand:
"snake, there is no need for words....i can read your every thought.."
Snake immediately draws out his gun.. Mantis just stays there smiling...
Mantis : "Its no use, snake..i told you, i can read your every thought....
Then mantis starts doing the impossible..he starts telling everything about snakes personality ( What will shock you, is the fact that he is reading your mind... , damn it !). .He could even find out the video games that snake ( you ) like.
Snake is left amazed as to how he could do that.. Sensing this, mantis decides to shock us more...he asks snake to put the Playstation controller on the floor. Snake nods towards us to do it. Mantis moves your controller by the power of his will alone.
Mantis : "Yes.... its true power......."..
Mantis now starts completely hallucinating snake with images......snake is left contemplating how to kill Psycho Mantis. Mantis is dodging all his attacks and shots, as if he knew they were coming. Thinking out of the box, snake manages to do the impossible ( you go figure how to do that by yourself, bro !!!) .

Mantis, defeated and sprawled on the ground, is approached ominously by Snake. Realizing he will die soon Mantis tell's Snake he will look into his future. He then uses an out-of-body experience to explain to Snake the way to get to where Metal Gear is being stored- through a secret door behind a bookcase in his room . Asking Mantis why he is helping him Mantis explains that he has read thousands and thousands of minds & how each one contained the same selfish and disgusting desire- to reproduce and to aimlessly pass on their DNA. Everyone was just focused on the future.

Mantis helped Snake because he is different- he has no future, no past- he lives in the moment. Mantis tells that human beings aren't meant to
bring each other happiness- From the moment we enter the world ,we are here to bring each other nothing but pain & misery (this is based on his awful experiences as a child- his mother died giving childbirth to him. When he looked into his fathers mind he saw nothing but hate & disgust for him. This analysis of someone else's mind and the hidden elements within it waked up Mantis's own subconscious and made him kill his father. The power that was released from him during that episode wiped out his whole home town, of 1000 people, and horribly scarred his face making him lose his eye's and nose)

Mantis somehow "bonds" with Snake because he understands they both have buried past's and they don't enjoy looking back on them. Mantis explains why he became involved in the siege of the island, he didn't believe in Liquid Snake's ideals, he just wanted to kill as many people as he could. Meryl is disgusted and nearly hit's Mantis but Snake gets her to stop- Mantis doesn't have much time left. This prompt's Mantis to look into Meryl's mind & he find's Snake hold's a large place there. Nearly dead Mantis makes a last request- to have his mask put back on. With it other people's thoughts force their way into his mind and he is in his own "world" His last act is to move the heavy bookcase blocking the doorway with just his telekinetic mind power- he admits its the first time he used his powers to help someone and it feels "kinda nice"
