Successfully infiltrating Zanzibar Land again via parachute, Snake first meets up with Holly White, an American freelance journalist who was very famous for her award winning journals and documentaries on the Afghan war. However unknown to many, she is infact an undercover spy for the CIA, and was using her position to do undercover work for the CIA, posing as a journalist. Holly provides her assistance to Snake and serves as a navigator of the fortress' layout. She also gives snake , a photo of Natasha Markova , who was a member of the StB (the Czech State Police) assigned to protect Dr. Kio Marv. Formerly a gold-medalist figure skater ,during the 80's, Natasha had met and fell in love with a westerner named Frank Hunter . She tried to elope with him to the US, but she was denied U.S citizenship and failed to . Because of this, Natasha was also stripped of her competition rights back home . With very few places left to turn, she joined th e StB (the Czech international police) and was assigned to be the body-guard of Dr.Kio Marv. When the plane was hijacked by soldiers from Zanzibar Land, Natasha managed to escape by disguising herself as an enemy soldier. White mentions that she must be lurking somewhere in the jungle, waiting for an oppurtunity to sneak into the fortress and save Dr.Marv.
Snake manages to meet Natasha, however a brief fight ensues because Natasha is not sure of Snake's identity. Finally snake manages to convince her about his mission. She tells snake, that she knows that an another scientist (whom she doesnt know) was also being held captive inside a camp close to the fortress. Snake sneaks up to the confinement and learns that the other scientist was infact Dr. Pettrovich, the chief engineer of Metal Gear from Outer Heaven. He too was abducted to Zanzibar Land and forced to develop another Metal Gear. He told a surprised Snake an even more shocking fact. BIG BOSS, the man Snake had defeated at Outer Heaven, turned out to be the General Commander of Zanzibar Land.

Snake then heads for the confinement facility deep in the fortress to save Dr. Marv along with Natasha and Petrovich. They reach a narrow bridge which leads to the other side. When Pettrovich and Natasha crosses the narrow suspension bridge over the deep valley and almost reach the other side , a missile blew the bridge away, and Natasha gets thrown off the bridge, deep into the valley . Unable to do anything to save Natasha's life , Snake becomes remorseful, when he started hearing a familiar voice : "Hey Snake, we 're good buddies. I can let you go. Just leave this place at once!" GREY FOX . Snake saw Gray Fox controlling Metal Gear, on the other side of the bridge . The best soldier in FOX-HOUND who, after the fall of Outer Heaven, disapeared as if he followed Big Boss. Losing Natasha infront of his eyes and seeing Pettrovich get taken away.
Snake screams: "Fox! I will not give up!" .
Determined to accomplish his mission, Snake fights against Zanzibar Land's elite mercenary force . Snake also had to regularly thwart a Black Ninja ( YES...THE FIRST OCCURENCE OF THE LEGENDARY METALGEAR NINJA, GUYS ), who seemed to poccess super human strength and agility. Snake manages to reach Dr. Marv's cell , and see's the Ninja guarding Dr. Marv and Dr. Pettrovich. After the intense fight, the identity of the ninja in the suit is revealed : It was the former Outer Heaven resistance leader Kyle Schneider, who was presumed dead by all in the events at Outer Heaven.
Snake however soon knew that he had arrived too late, as he finds Dr. Marv's corpse, who was unable to survive the repeated torture sessions.
Dr. Petrovich, mentions that he was unable to save him. Just before Snake could retrieve the OILIX formula left by Dr. Marv, Holly codecs Snake and reveals via a radio message that Dr. Petrovich was not captured after all . He was in Zanzibar Land voluntarily overseeing the development of Metal Gear.The abduction of Dr. Marv was conducted under the the directions of Pettrovich himself. After the truth came out, Pettrovich tries to attack Snake, but Snake easily subdues him and obtains the structual plan of OILIX.
While trying to escape, Snake is confronted by Metal Gear again, controlled by Gray Fox. The tremendous battle took place in the underground base. Snake finally succeeded in destroying Metal Gear. However, Gray Fox did not submit and challened Snake to the final battle. In the midst of a minefield, Snake and Fox fought without any weapons. A fist-to-fist duel involving no hatred or murderous intent. During that moment of purity the 2 friends were bound by forces transcending words and emotions. Snake won the tough but pure battle against Grey Fox. In his dying moments, Grey Fox sees the photo of Natasha ,which slipped out of Snake's pants. He ishocked and asks snake where she is. When snakes informs that Fox had himself killed her, Fox becomes distraught and tells snake that he was infact Frank Hunter ( known as Frank Jaegar to his colleagues ) , Natasha's husband......... Fox dies uttering those last words... leaving snake alone and sad in the mine-field.

However, there was still someone else. Snake had to fight Big Boss.
Just like 4 years ago at Outer Heaven Big Boss was waiting for Snake.
Big boss: "One who has experienced the tension of battle can never leave the battlefield. I'am the one giving you something to live for, and that is war" .
Snake is infuriated at the arrogant Big Boss . "Boss, There is only one battle I have to fight. To free myself from you, to shatter the nightmare...Big Boss, I will kill you!"........
With no weapons at his disposal, Snake was forced to improvise and makes a homemade flamethrower consisting of a cigarette lighter and a can of hairspray. Taking Big Boss by surprise, Snake defeated him for the second and last time.
With the structual plan of Oilix, Snake and Horry escaped from Zanzibar Land on a rescue helicopter.
Snake once again saved the world. However, there was no smile on his face. Big Boss's last words kept ringing in his head : "Whoever wins, out battle does not end. The loser is freed from the battlefield, the winner must remain there as the survivor and must live his life as the warrior until he dies" .
Snake then disappeared into the white lands of Alaska...alone... not to be heard from for a long time......

Hope that so far this was an entertaining read. Its a remarkable story, given the time when it was released. ( Wasnt CONTRA the biggest storyline game, then ? .....HI HI ) .......
The storyline so far has been good and complex, but you aint seen nothing, because next up comes the grand-daddy : METAL GEAR SOLID ( 1998 ) , which revitalised the series into 3D Glory , bringing with it more of everything. The storyline reached movie standards ( according to me it surpasses most of them, easily ) , and boy wasn't its eventful and epic.........: .
GUYS....PLEASE LEMME KNOW YOUR OPINIONS about this thread. Is it still complex ( if it is, blame your intellect, isn't it ? ) , or isn't it still enough ?
You have to consider that a lot of fans really want to get into this metal gear saga, and have never even found a place which could barely even scratch their needs. I hope mine, will help remove all such voids, bringing a novel like experience. BUT I KNOW I CAN IMPROVE, AND DO LEMME KNOW IF I SHOULD CONTINUE . Its a very tiresome job of uploading, and now seeing the amount of story left in my doc , i already feel OVERWHELMED...... PLEASE LEMME KNOW YOUR FEED-BACKS , it matters................... thank you...>>>>

Why not ask for people's opinions once you're done telling the story? That would make the most sense.

The year is 2005. In the remote area of Alaska, located in the Bering Sea, is the chain of islands known as the Fox-Arciphelago. In there exist's Shadow Moses island- , a top-secret nuclear warhead storage facility. During an exercise on the Island involving ARMSTECH Inc. (Once the 2nd largest arms manufacturer in the world and primarily involved in the development of SDI and Rail guns) and DARPA (The Defense Advanced Research Project Agency , A government department involved in researching technology for implementation into military systems and weapons), the Next-Generation Special Forces lead by members of FOX-HOUND, invade the island and capture it. There, they make the (somewhat puzzling) demand - they want the remains of Big Boss. They state that if these demands are not met- they will launch a nuclear weapon within 24 hours.

Understanding the seriousness of the situation, the secretary of defense, Jim Houseman, call's upon retired FOX-HOUND commander Roy Campbell to deal with the situation. In turn, Campbell call's upon the services of Solid Snake (now a dog musher in an isolated part of Alaska) . Understanding Snake would not simply hear him out, armed soldiers are sent out to bring Snake in for a briefing. Within 5 hours of the terrorists taking over the island, Snake has been stripped and is sitting down, alone, in an isolation chamber.

Campbell comes in, he is quick and to the point, they are in an extremely serious situation and only Snake can get them out of it. Campbell introduces Snake to Dr. Naomi Hunter, FOX-HOUND's chief medical officer . Campbell then briefs him on his 2 mission objects- he is to rescue DARPA chief Donald Anderson & ARMSTECH President Kenneth Baker and he is to, most importantly, find out , whether or not the terrorists have the ability to launch a nuclear weapon .

Snake is quick to point out that he hasn't even agreed to the mission- Campbell wants to know whether living in Alaska is all that great. All he is is a dog musher. He then elaborates on the site- the weapons disposal facility is a hardened underground base. For Snake to infiltrate the base, air insertion is impossible. The only possible way is to get in through the water. A submarine will be able to drop him within a few miles of the island, but then will have to launch a SDV (Swimmer Delivery Vehicle) . The sub must stay away from the island because it may be picked up on Sonar) . Campbell also informs Snake that, unfortunatly, weapon and equipment is OSP (On Site Procurement. He cannot take anything with him). The colonel explains that the President is in supervisory control of the operation but the Secretary of Defense is in operational control. A COG will not be issued until it can be determined, by Snake, whether or not the terrorists can launch a Nuclear Weapon. The National Security Agency and the Defense Intelligence Agency will be working with them as well- but Snake is not interested in "desk jockeys" . Campbells agree's and briefs him on Natasha Romaneko- she will act as an advisor on the nuclear weapons present on the island.

Snake is curious- why is Campbell in on the mission? He replies that he knows FOX-HOUND. Snake doesn't believe him- he wants to know the real reason. Campbell apologises and admits its because his niece is being held hostage. He mentions that she was a rookie recruit of the Next-Generation Special Forces U.S. military group and was assigned to the Shadow Moses island in 2005 as an emergency replacement , when several soldiers were reported missing. Following her arrival on the island, the unit involved with the exercise revolted along with members of FOXHOUND and took over the nuclear disposal site . After that , there has been no news about her... He mentions that She is his little-brother's daughter (he died in the Gulf War and Campbell thereafter had charged himself with looking after her). At this point Snake agree's to do the mission, on 2 conditions. The first one being that no secrets are kept from him. He wants to know everything at all times. The second condition being that he will only accept orders from the Colonel and no-one else. Campbell agrees. Snake then enquires about the plausibilty of swimming for more than a mile in water , especially in the harsh alaskan winter. Naomi steps in and administers snake an injection. She explains that the injection ,is a combination of nanomachines and anti-freezing peptites. They will stop his blood from freezing (even at sub-artic temperatures) . Many nanomachines are working in the bloodstream to replace adreniline, sugar and nutrition (Snake will not have to worry about food) .Neotropics are present (these will improve mental functioning) and benzadrine as well (responsible for keeping him awake and alert for 12 hours) In addition, the nanomachines will also keep the CODEC batteries going.
Snake wants to know why ARMSTECH and DARPA were present on the island. Were they there for a new weapon? Snake also asks why, certain members of FOXHOUND suddenly turned Renegade ? Campbell explains he is not available to access that kind of information. Snake wants to know if they can launch- Campbell says that they have given a warhead serial number (seemingly the one they intend to use) and that it has been confirmed. However, a PAL (Permissive Action Link) system is present to prevent a launch- but only the DARPA chief knows how to stop it...

The agent is then briefed on the worst part of the mission - the FOX-HOUND members who are the leaders of the terrorists. Snake is briefed on them : Psyco Mantis (who is the worlds most powerful tactioner of reading minds and moving objects with his own mind), Vulcan Raven (A giant and shaman) Sniper Wolf (who can stay in the same position, looking through a rifle scope, for days or even weeks) Decoy Octopus (master of disguise) Revolver Ocelot (Gun fighting and interrogation specialist) and the leader of the terrorists...Liquid Snake...
" Liquid Snake ? " Snake is astounded. - someone with the same code-name? Snake soon becomes concerned and nervous about the mission, and this is not helped when he is shown a picture of Liquid...with a face exactly the same as him. Just as Snake is leaving the room, preparing to prep for the mission, as an afterthought, he ask's to borrow Naomi scissors. He begins to snip his hair short- he doesn't want to be mistaken for the terrorist's leader...

Solid Snake arrives in the lower Dock of Shadow Moses island via the SDV and surfaces in scuba gear, just in time to overhear Liquid Snake warn genome soldiers that "he" will be through here any moment, he can sense it. He has a couple of bothersome flies to take care of himself. Liquid makes his way to the surface in the freight elevator. Snake sneaks his way through the guards and waits for the elevator to return, then uses it to go to the surface. He reaches the surface and could see the main building in the distance. However, the area is heavily guarded. He hides behind a storage block & contact's Campbell VIA CODEC, who alerts him as to how to go about infiltrating the main hangar of the complex where the Nuclear weapon is stored further on. At that point a Hind-D gunship (piloted by Liquid) is about to take off.
Snake asks the colonel "Hind-D ? Colonel , what's a Russian Gunship doing here?" . Campbell replies that he had no idea, but he mentioned that their diversionary operation has been effective.
He mentions that two F-16 fighters had been sent as a diversionary operation to allow Snake to infiltrate the base, and they seem to have caught the attention of the terrorists. Snake has 18 hours until the terrorist's dead-line is met.
Then a new voice replies over the codec:
"Wow,he must be crazy to fly it in this kind of weather".
Snake: "Who's that?"
Campbell: "Oh,sorry, i havent introduced you to her, she's Mei ling, she's our visual and data-processing specialist. She designed your CODEC and your Solition Radar system".
Mei Ling tells Snake that it was a big honor for her to work with a living legend like him. They gather up some talk and snake says that with her, he is sure he wont be at least bored for the next 18 hours.
Naomi tells Snake that the Soldiers that he is seeing on the site were highely proficient. They have well-developed senses of hearing and vision, due to their gene-therapy
Mei Ling replies that she has used this to some advantage in her Soliton Radar system. Due to the resultant Nano Machines inside the Genome Soldier's bodies ( meant to improve their overall performance ), they can be tracked as a green dot in the radar, which will give snake some help.
Campbell informs snake, that his first task will be to infiltrate the facility and look for the DARPA Cheif. Naomi replies that the darpa cheif must also have been injected with the same GPS Transmitting nanomachines as snake was, and he too would be hence trackable on the radar.
Snake decides to sneak through into the base via a narrow air duct on the second floor as that's the only opening he see's. He manages to evade all the guards and survailance camera's and starts crawling through the air duct, into the base. However, he is surprised to get a new codec message:
"Snake, This is McDonald Miller, its been a long time....."

Snake is shocked: "Master, what are you doing here.....?"
Miller replies that After the Zanzibar Land Uprising , he retired as well, and moved to Alaska, living in solitary in a three story house with his huskies. He sometimes trained the Alaskan scouts during his free time.
Snake: "Passing the skills to a new generation , huh? "
Miller: "Campbell told me about the situation here, I thought i might be of some use".
Snake: "There's no other man, i would like to have in a foxhole ,than you".
Miller: "Well , i know lots about survival in a harsh environment".
Snake: "You taught me some".
Miller: "I have lived in Alaska longer than you, if you need any help , contact me thorigh Codec, my frequency is 141.80".

Snake continues through the duct, and as he reaches the end, he overhears 2 guards , one telling the other that the DARPA chief has been moved to a cell in the 1st floor basement. Also he mentioned to take special care of a "Woman in the cell" , who seems to be a real tough nut to guard.
"A woman?" snake is a little amused. However,his suspicions are answered, when as he crawls a big furher, he could see down into one of the rooms through the air shaft. He sees a young lady exercising and doing her pushups.
Snake continues and reaches the end of the duct, wherein he jumps down through the shaft, and into the DARPA chiefs (Donald Andersons) cell through the venting system. There he confirms the worst possibility- the terrorists can, indeed, launch a nuclear weapon. However, snake is surprised and queries that the since the island complex is just a Nuclear weapon's storage facility for dismantled warheads , so the terrorist's shouldn't be able to launch a weapon. Anderson reveals that it was just the official story.......
Anderson reveals that in Shadow Moses Island , they were infact experimenting with a new weapon , a truly historical weapon , that will change the world with its ability to launch a nuke from anywhere on the globe. The weapon is a new version of Metal Gear known as Metal Gear Rex.
Snake is astounded upon hear the word: "METAL GEAR" again.
