    Cool
This move is typical Nintendo, which is why I'm pretty much out of the handheld gaming market. I bought the 3DS, I did enjoy it, but there was just NO content for it. The only reason I'd own a DS anymore is to play the occasional Pokemon title. I mainly use my phone for mobile gaming now.

As I just posted on G4TV's Facebook wall... Nintendo is officially dead to me. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. As a matter of fact, I'm trading in all of my Nintendo related crap later this weekend. Done.

Didn't they release the original 3DS around Feb/March last year? I got mine on release day with money from not having to pay my council tax for two months, which comes round about that time of year.

    Cheers Raavyn for the sig!

My bad... a year and some change.

Still doesn't change matters... Nintendo = Japanese speak meaning: "cash grab".

Hmm, I dunno. It's not as if Nintendo are the only culprits. Apple do the same thing, as did Sony with the PSP, and the PS3 while we're at it. Nobody's forcing you to buy it and your original 3DS will still work just as well. Not really sure what the problem is to be honest. Technology has moved on to the point where Ninty can now produce a machine with a bigger screen - at the time of the launch of the 3DS it was the only machine in the world (as far as I know) with a glasses-free 3D display, and it was small because that's all they could manage at the time. Apple in fact are FAR worse for this because of their practise of planned and forced obsolescence, but the sheep lap it up and Apple are laughing all the way to the bank. At least anyone with an old fat DS could still play anything and everything DSi XL users can play today, and it's the same with the 3DS XL. There's nothing in it that the 3DS can't do.

    Cheers Raavyn for the sig!

Im not really mad at em.

If you remember, in creating the original 3ds they had a very hard time cramming all the components in, and probably could have came up with something better in a year or so, but they had to produce something when they did, or essentially die at the hands of the vita ( tho still unlikely). This is the product of just having more time to develop something a bit more refined, and in this case, is actually ok because its not a must have type of thing, and definitely not for everyone. Hopefully this means that when they finally decide to refresh the system fully, or make a new system, then it'll be very nice, as people are saying nothing but good things about the XL as a product.

That was true when the 3ds was a bit new, but the library is starting to pick up steam, fast. all of a sudden there are a bunch of new games coming out that I want badly.

I have a 3DS and I haven't suffered from any eye strain. I find the 3D effects on games impressive however, I wish there were more games out and Nintendo would focus more on 3DS games instead of the WiiU. The games I have got however, like Mario Kart 7, Super Mario Land 3D, Nintendogs and Rhythm Thief and the Emperors Treasure have been great and I have spent many hours playing them and enjoying them. Nintendo are still producing new Nintendo DS games like Pokemon Black and White 2 for example however, the Nintendo DS is 6 years old and Nintendo are not going wrong by focusing on their newer consoles.

Black and white 2 were more of a cash grab as they wanted to make the game accessible to as many ppl as possible, but I expect the next game to be 3ds only as the penetration should be almost double what it is now. I think nintendo is doing a good job on the first party front and im really excited about some of the third party companies making more AAA titles now that they see the system is making money. The new castlevania game is going to be BANANAS!

So I picked up a 3DS XL today, and I have to say I'm impressed. I was worried that the resolution being the same on such a huge screen would ruin the games, but it really doesn't. Plain text isn't as sharp, but it just looks like text did on an the old DS Lite, so it's not so big a deal. All the games I've tried look fantastic on the bigger screen, and although for sure there is a bit of loss of fidelity here and there, for the most part the big screen helps a lot. The screens are incredibly clear, and to me at least, the 3D effect seems stronger, which is great. But the small sweet spot remains, and I seem to have to hold the thing at a slightly weirder angle than the original 3DS so it's a bit more difficult to find. I found the huge size a bit of a hindrance for games that require you to constantly hold the shoulder buttons at first, but I soon got used to holding it the way it wants you to. It's not as natural feeling as the Vita, sadly, but it doesn't feel particularly unwieldy.

    Overall I'm a happy camper.

    Cheers Raavyn for the sig!

The XL was definitely a nice improvement. I thought the same thing about the resolution but nope - looks great.

I rather like it. While I agree the screen is small...I really dislike the XL's. I think it's a clever little system. Doesn't look cheap to me at all. It comes in handy and I rather like it. The only time I ever get eye strain is when I use the 3D function lol I only use that function on certain games.
