I'm embarrassed to admit that I haven't actually tried any homebrew games, apart from Cave Story (which was for PC first anyway so it doesn't count). Any recommendations?

I'd say its well worth it, I enjoy mine and a bunch of my buddies have them too.

I'd say now its worth it. When they first came out i picked up a core system for $199 and they didn't have very many games. Even the first 6 months they didn't have very many games, but now alot of developers are seeing the light and putting more time and effort into it vs the nds. The nds imo is a waste of money, nintendo really has a knack for holding the handheld community hostage with recycled old technology and the psp is actually moving the community forward.
