Well, I got to play it for hours last night. All I can say is... wow. Just freakin' wow.

The city is alive, dude. Stop and look at everyone around you. People are chatting, they're smoking, they're arguing. It's amazing! The details are so amazing. It makes every little skirmish, that much more potent. In example, here's one of my first interactions with someone.

I was driving around, jacking different types of cars, just getting used to the handling. I saw my first motercycle. It kind of looked like a chopper you'd see on that show "American Chopper". Anyway, I dive out of my ****** taxi cab and point my gun at this guy. He puts his hands up and gets off the bike. I get on his bike and drive a little bit away from him. He pulls out a knife and runs after me, while I'm on this bike.

Now, before I jacked this guy, my taxi was smoking pretty dark because I had a hell of a time smashing it into various things. When I saw this guy's bike, I dropped out of this cab while it was going about 40MPH and let is smash into a few cars at an inersection. The car started to flame up while I was jacking this guy's bike. After letting this guy get close to me, I drive my bike in a path that would make the guy with the knife follow me close to the burning car. I wasn't used to how quick the cars blow, so I figured it would blow pretty quickly like it did in the old Grand Theft Auto games. I ended up giving the car too much time, and the person with the knife was too far away from the car when it exploded. He did however fall down from the explosion.

When the taxi exploded, it caused a chain reaction. The car it crashed into exploded, and the car after that. I think about 5 cars ended up blowing up. I decided I wanted that guy's knife. I got off my bike after he was first knocked down, and went up to kick him while he was down. He got up in time and I ran a bit closer to the cars, in hopes of him getting knocked down by another explosion. The taxi cab was a blazing inferno by now, and the second car blew up, knocking me, and this crazy knife guy down to the ground. I was able to get up a bit before he got his feet. I ran to go the opposite way I came, so if he followed me again, he's possibly get in the way of another blast.

The cars behind the second car, and in the lane close to it ensued to blow up, this time in much quicker recession. This dude with the knife is close to the first taxi cab, when a driver from behind ends up trying to drive his car around the burning intersection, and hits the car that my taxi cab blew up. This car hit's the taxi, and the taxi starts to spin and wobble a bit. The guy with the knife was close to the taxi cab when this was going on, and he stopped in front of the taxi cab, and put his hands on it as if he were trying to stop it from spinning into him.

I was just standing there, watching him do this. I can't believe how great this AI is in this game! I mean, he put his hands out to try and stop this flaming car from spinning into him! I ended up running over to him and pushing him down when this happened. Then another car blew up and knocked me down again. It took a bit of my health this time around, as it did for this guy. He ends up getting up and I square off with him. Here I am, able to use a gun, but instead I choose to go bare knuckle with him. He slices at me, and gets me a few times (which by the way, that takes a **** load of your health!). I finally end up dodging one of his strikes, and disarm him with the Y button. Instead of running away, he continues to fight. I use the alternate attack button and stab him in the stomach. He then holds his belly, and crouches over in pain.

I kicked him after that, and he fell to the ground. I then stabbed him, which finished him. He didn't get back up after that, but I continued to stab him until he stopped screaming and grunting when I thrusted the knife into him. I got a star after that, so I couldn't stick around to see if he bled out, but it was an awesome experience. That moment probably only lasted about 90 seconds in real time, but look at how I just described it. There was so much detail going. To the screaming of the people on the streets, to the flying debris and smoke from the cars blowing up. This game is intense. It's much more realistic this time around and it's just plain amazing that they totally made this game a living, breathing world.

I apologize if this post is all un-organized and chocked full of grammar errors. I was so excited when I was typing this back up from memory. I can't wait to play again tonight; right now I'm stuck babysitting kids, so I can't.

I totally agree... the people who hate on this game can go ahead and do so... they can go have fun playing that GTA wannabe, Saints Row 1 or 2 for all I care.

No... you're not. I'm just playing my game on the 360 (can't friggin' wait for the DLC, by the way)... according to the last time that I checked my in-game addiction level, it said that I was in detox/retox over the game... or something along those lines.

Definitely my favorite one of the series, followed closely by San Andreas.

I'd say San Andreas is at the probably further down the line, from the 3D GTA's I've played.

So far it's:


1. GTA IV
2. GTA III
3. Vice City
4. San Andreas
5. Liberty City Stories

And Saint's Row is just stupid compared to this game. Saints Row had a horrible story, and the game itself was really just repeated itself over and over.

This is pretty much how I'd rank them as well. As I can say I got my moneys worth out of Saint's Row, it's just no where near the caliber that Grand Theft Auto is.

Taking a second look at your list, I'd say Vice City would be second on my list. Ray Liotta is the freakin' man...

I tend to agree with this statement... but here is my ranking of the series:

1.) GTAIV
2.) (A tie) San Andreas or Vice City... flip a coin.
3.) GTAIII
4.) GTA1
5.) GTA2

I'll always put Grand Theft Auto III before Vice City because I love the first island of the game. It's the whole Mafioso storyline that really does it for me. I was so deep into the Mafia missions, and the story of the waging wars between the families was awesome. Remember that mission Skunk in the Trunk? Then, I get all invested in this Mafia family, and then they try and blow me up in a car. It's just crazy! My first playthrough, I was pissed. I was like, how could they want to kill me? That made the mission where you assasinate Salvatore Leone that much more deep for me.

Lmao, I remember a week ago I was playing GTA III because I didn't have GTA IV. Anways, I was playing the story line and I got to the part where they want me to drive the car to the junk yard and smash it. I actually went and got into the car! I forgot that there is a bomb in there Lmao.
