i'm about to go nuclear.
my copy is screwed or something. i can't get past the "loading mission" screen. i tried deleting my save game file and just starting over, no dice. i tried deleting my profile, no dice. i'm now stuck on "starting a new game". it's been on this screen for the last 45 minutes. i don't know what's going on but i'm out of ideas at this point.

i've only played this game for 20 minutes total so far and i was impressed but not impressed enough to put up with this crap.

Sign out of PSN before you load the game up, worked like a charm for me.

If you are on PS3, there is a 12 step process to trying to solve this.

Take-Two suggests PS3 GTAIV fix - PlayStation 3 News at GameSpot

The latest solution is to simply not log into the PSN.

I don't know if any of it works, luckily my only freeze up was solved by restarting the console.

Sorry to hear about your problems. R* said on Wednesday a patch to solve all the current problems could be hours away or days away. I had a lot of respect for R* when I played the game, I lost it all when I saw that comment.

EDIT - Didn't see Allstar's post about the PSN, it is confirmed then.

Hopefully you saved your receipt and you should probably just return it for a new copy. I took my friend to Gamestop yesterday . After going to see Iron Man he got home and put in the GTA disc and there was nothing on his disk. I believe that the game is so mass produced that there's a lot of faulty disks circulating around.

There was a recent story about a guy who spent $23k on games, he took the disk out and put a blank one in. He then got a replacement from the shop, and sold one of the copies on eBay. I think he made about $19k out of it..... that's eBay for you.

If my problem persists, I think I will take mine back and get a replacement. Usually I wouldn't mind but this game is epic win so it's a shame for it to be spoiled by random freeze-ups. I hope the receipt is in my wallet because it's not in the bag.
