Yep. You can also set your ps3 to become a dedicated server. There are also several research centers that use the ps3 in clusters to do their shizz.
And I highly doubt that most games use SONY servers for anything other than stats. I mean, if we still use p2p hosting in COD, and basically every other game on the ps, they probably don't have servers they can use instead, since that would be the preferred method in the first place.
