the running feels a little more stiff and realistic to me. Its kindof a bad and a good thing.

Hi guys, I'm new here (I like the idea of a forum for "mature" gamers). Anyway, I have to say that my first 2 hour impression of GTA4 has left me fairly disappointed to say the least. I feel that the graphics are somewhat PS2ish(although I do understand the game "world" is big so I understand there are some graphical draw backs that occur from this) it is too dark, the controls feel stiff and the driving physics have left quite a bit to be desired (and I have been going slow as to be able to see the sights and STILL can't make a turn going maybe 15 mph). I was expecting so much more than what I've witnessed so far seeing that the game has been in development for at least 3 years(something like that).
Maybe after a few more hours, I'll adjust to it, but I feel that Saints Row on the 360 gave me a better 1st impression.

Mass Hype Alert !! Mass Hype Alert !!
First off my 360 has been freezing during gameplay on the SP. 360 has not been freezing at any time since I got this game. My friend in Chicago told me he was playing it and his 360 froze and he got the 3 rings, so he traded his in for the PS3 Version. I wonder if we'll soon be hearing of mass 360 breakdowns.
I agree with the stiff controls. Giving someone a beat down on the street was also stiff , I kept having to wait for the old man to get up before it would let me land anymore punches.
Still seems like a good game despite obvious flaws. I don't know about that perfect 10 across the board rating. I'm starting to think people are getting paid off.
Still haven't played enough to give a full impression and I hope I change my mind. Still have yet to try any MP, but that probably won't be today.

The graphics in GTA4, are three times as good as the the last gta. I'm not sure what u were expecting, but the game is remarkably better on first impression than saints row. the lighting, animations, attention to almost every small detail, and even the aiming system is better. The driving takes some getting used to, but ive got the hang of it, and i actually like it.
If the game is too dark, you can always change the brightness and contrast, but do remember this is more of a darker themed game than saints row. Even with all the funny ****.
on a side note, i just called 911 and told them to send the fire department, which actually came. This game is so badass.

It rumbles I have the dual shock 3 and it vibrated the controller when you get a text message or phone call and crash. Not amazing but yea its there.
I really hate the driving in this game.
EDIT: Lib what system you have it for? (I don't know what you own.)
I was just bowling on a date with the girl I got a spare then niko went again (in the 6th frame) and I got a 7 and it added the points like crazy. Must have been a glitch? Never mind they only play 6 frames? lol

3 times better? I know that we both have our opinions, so I'm not going to try to argue w/ you here. But I disagree w/ the 3 times better thing. 1st off, the graphics SHOULD be 3 times better b/c this is next gen (GTA SA was last gen in case you forgot) and it has been in development for a very long time. They had plenty of time to make this a graphically superior game to SR or pretty much any other game out there. I PERSONALLY feel that the lighting and overall graphics were better in SR than in GTA4.
Also keep in mind that SR came out almost 2 yrs ago so maybe your memory has faded a little in regards to remembering that game. I just finished playing it in december/january so it is still fresh in my mind. But either way, your opinion is no less valid than mine. I personally am disappointed, you may not be. I lived in NYC, and I just don't feel that the lighting does the real city any justice. Maybe I can play around w/ my DLP a lil more and make it brighter (along w/ the in game adjustments) but I'm not so sure I can get the visuals to where I want them.
Either way, graphics aside, I STILL feel the controls are stiff and not fluid at all, the driving is "off" and it is too easy to slide to the other side of the street even while going slow (like all the cars have no weight to them and are on racing slicks...). I want to like this game, and maybe I will after playing it some more, but my 1st impression has not been good.

Rockstar has clearly stated, that this is not New York city but Liberty City. They had some similar things but was stated that some things will be changed for the story. The worst thing you can do is compare it to the real New York. Your not doing Liberty City any justice by doing that.
