I'll be doing Ethernet over Powerline, but I don't have a job and only about a $100 in the bank, so I'm kind of screwed if I were to buy something.

Complicated, dude. I'm living with my Uncle who took me in after my Mom got sick. He was cool at first, and I got a job working at a fast food joint. I worked there until I was eventually fired 8 months into it after insulting my manager. I worked in the afternoons there, and during the day, I watched my Aunt and Uncle's kids. After I was fired, I thought it'd be cool because I could get a day job. Then my Uncle told me that I couldn't live at his house if I didn't watch his kids for him during the day.
He said he can't afford it; which is something that I don't understand because I didn't watch his kids all the time until a month or so into living there. He asked me if I wanted to do it, and I agreed so I could help him out. Now, I am having a hard time finding a job that complies with this strict schedule I've been given. I wished I would have saved up better during those 8 months, because now I've only worked in two factories through a temporary agency, and I have like no cash in the bank, and I'm sitting on my *** because I can't find a job that starts after 4:00PM. Well, I could find one, but I'd be homeless if I took it.
He was all for helping me get onto my feet. Now I'm stuck because I have no money to move out on my own. I'm really stuck.

That sucks :(
Couldn't you offer to pay rent as an alternative to babysitting? Then you could work full time, and maybe he could afford to pay for childcare.

Why not consider a retail job in the evenings? Something like BestBuy or somewhere where you can make good use of an employee discount?
If that doesn't tickle your pickle, perhaps you could make a deal with them to pay half of child-care in lieu of rent, and you could get a decent day job?
I feel for you man, my best friend's been in a similar situation for a year.

Not sure I want to ask this, but as a naive Brit, what on Earth is Wally World?

Walmart, which is a huge retail department store constantly blamed for driving small businesses out of business.

Walmart is awesome. I wish we had one up here where I lived, but that was a no-go about a year and a half ago . I live in the middle of the Adirondack Park so the APA shot that idea down pretty quick. They also said it would drive out too many small town businesses, like OME6A said.
God, aren't there 24 hour stores where you live? When I was going to school full time it was hard for me to find a job right away as well. Classes were conflicting with any job idea that I had, then I looked into the 24 hour store. I stated work at 9 p.m and got done at 5 a.m, I did this 2-3 times a week. Might be a good way for you to get a full time job, and continue working around your Uncle's schedule.
-On a side note. The "graveyard" shift, or what I called it, payed pretty well too. I started at $8.75 an hour, by the time I left I was up to $9.77.
