I did some cleaning up here.
This will be the one and only "which should I get/which is better/which will make me waffles" topic from here on in.
Stay on topic, no flaming, and no fan boyism.

Even though the hardware isnt too reliable, the 360 seems to have the most complete package overall (software-network-hardware-)
but why ask which system your going to get without even defining your tastes? it pretty much seems useless if we know nothing about you.

I agree with you on the network part. But I have to say that software and DEFINITELY hardware goes to the PS3. The software one is arguable, but you can't argue the hardware aspect. PS3 wins that area, hands down. With the PS3 the hardware is much more reliable, the processor is better, graphics capabilites are better, it has Blu-ray, and it comes standard with wireless capabilites. And I would even give software to the 360 last year, but not this year. PS3's lineup is too strong this year, and it has just been confirmed that Bioshock is coming out on PS3 this fall, so the 360 will no longer be able to claim that as one of its big exclusive titles. But in just this year the PS3 will have Metal Gear Solid 4 (with Metal Gear Online), Resistance 2, Motorstorm: Pacific Rift, and SOCOM: Confrontation. Those will be the huge system sellers. 2009 will be strong too, with God of War III and Killzone 2 looking to lead the way.

No. I have a pedicure planned for that day, and I'm not rescheduling again.
People can pine on all they want about hardware specs, release schedules, whatever. All that stuff is bullsh#t. What matters is the experience.
I own both consoles, I use both consoles, and if I had to pick one it'd be the 360. It is just an all around better experience.
I'm a computer programmer and a web developer who technology is like second nature to, and the PS3 to me is the most overly unnecessarily complicated thing I've ever used.
You can have all the titles in the world lined up, and the best hardware on the market, but if it isn't a good time then none of that other stuff is worth a hill of beans.
That's just talking about the consoles themselves. If you really want it to get ugly, we can talk about how the online services stack up against eachother.

Agreed, 100%. IMO, the 360 has a much better software library, but I won't harp on about that too much because that's just my opinion. What does irk me about these threads is that the PS3 is always touted as the 'better' machine, hardware wise. Well yes, it is, on paper. But that means absolutely nothing if the games look identical across platforms (sometimes worse on PS3).
I haven't even been that impressed with the graphics on PS3 exclusives, so whining about X game (oh to hell with it, we all know I mean GTA) should have been PS3 exclusive!!!1 LOLZ is ccompletely pointless. I was quite impressed with how Heavenly Sword looked, but it was what, 5 hours long? Yeah, way to justify Blu-Ray, Sony. Everything else, Motorstorm, Resistance, Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, admittedly looked good, but I'm sure the 360 could have handled them without a problem if it was allowed to.
All that said, I do love the PS3, but I think the 360 just steals it for me on the basis of its own library, cost and more comfortable controller (again, just opinion), but neither are perfect. They complement each other well, as far as I'm concerned.

"Which console is better; Xbox 360 or Playstation 3?"
I don't even think its possible to find the correct answer by just asking people on a gaming forum. Most people won't give you the correct answer, and they will just tell you that the console they own is the best. Why? because they spend more time playing on that console than they do on any other. The best way to find the correct answer is write down all the features, games, online etc. and figure out which one you like better. I owned the PS3 in the past but I disliked it so I returned it and purchased the XBOX 360.

Like others have said, it really depends on what you're wanting. I bought my PS3 in January of 2007. I went with the PS3 because I believe it has the most potential, if it is taken full advantage of. I think that if the PS3 keeps going in the direction it's going, everyone will see it as the best quality system by 2009. Playstation Home and the in-game cross media bar will be two things that will catapult the system tremendously when they FINALLY arrive. But it's definitely much more of the multi-media system, with all of its capabilities, including Blu-ray.
I also think that you will continue to see games get better and better for the PS3 as developers get better acquainted with the Cell processor. PS3 also has a VERY promising upcoming lineup, if the games can live up to their hype. But that can go good or bad, no matter what console you have. Also, on the mulit-platform games, you're no longer seeing the PS3 versions as being inferior to the 360 versions. For instance, Madden 2009 and NCAA 2009 will run at 60 FPS on both systems, not just the 360 as they did last year.

Any type of ridiculous "mine is bigger then yours crap" from now on will be deleted.
Feel free to share your opinions about both consoles, but there is no reason to get all testosterone'd up if you favor one console over the other.
State your beliefs / research and be civil about it with one another.
