i dunno, that big bulky design is somthing straight out of the 80s, or early 90's. i dont see that design, being the only way it can work efficiently.though ive gotten used to the design, i dont think that will be the only one we see.
The only thing I don't like about the PS3 design is you cant stack anything on top of it.
The PS1 was a top loader so you couldn't stack on that, my fatty PS2 had mys DVD player on top, my 360 had my controllers on top when they weren't being used, but the PS3 doesn't allow for anything to be placed on top of it because it's a curve.
The PS3 seems hot because the air is actually moving out of the system so your feeling the heat of that the components inside give off, although they're staying plenty cool.
If you have a 40 GB PS3, turn the switch off in the back, then push the eject button and turn the switch back on.

Just do it and see, its not going to break it or I wouldn't say to do it. It'll scare you at first, but just do it.

I was told it forces out excess dust and hot air from the ps3, didn't know that was a bad thing.

But it is still turning the fans up full blast...a situation you would pretty much never run into with the PS3. You risk the chance of the fans breaking.
